Obama Offshore Oil Drilling Plan Nothing New

Is it true that attached to this reform is a new law that we have to pay capital gains tax on the sale of our house even if we've owned it for more than 2 years? Plus an additional 2% charge as well?

Minimal exploration at best. And this does not lead to actual drilling and removal of oil from the seabed automatically!

And what about the need for permits to finally build a new refinery for the first time in 30+ years? I bet the EPA will hamstring any such efforts.

Main stream media fawns over lord and master once again and refuses to report the true significance of this contrived effort to win GOP support for a harsh and destructive cap and trade bill in the Senate. Our Marxist president threw a faux bone.

. . . of course most folks know that we haven't been DRILLING off our shores for quite some time - rather we've been PUMPING "offshore in the lower 48" AND Alaska for a long time.

Which brings us to OIL REFINERIES - the last one was built in the US way back in 1976 {our bicentennial yay!} though a few have expanded since then, many others have closed. These remaining aging refineries have been running full tilt 24/7 - except for annual maintenance shutdowns, AND accidents.

There was an accident just a few days ago in Washington state which killed 5 workers. Anyone who has ever been inside one of these "relics" can tell you that for the most part THEY ARE ACCIDENTS WAITING TO HAPPEN!

So now that the Obama administration has released the proposals for new offshore drilling {which as some have pointed out - apparently have already been in the kitchen for quite awhile - just hadn't been put out on the table for public consumption yet?!} where is the President planning to BUILD THE NEW REFINERIES which will be sorely needed to process all this new flowing oil?!

AND/or does say Virginia or Maryland or the Carolinas know that they will eventually be the proud owners of bright shiny stinky ever glowing REFINERIES? Cuz as is the case of the majority of yuppies - while they always want to be able to drive their gas guzzling hulking SUVs from their McMansions way out in the 'burbs to their nice cushy jobs in the cities AND are among the first to complain when they have to shell out more of their latte money for fuel - they are also the first ones to shriek "NOT IN MY BACKYARD"!! {while the snarky conservatves merely go out & buy more shares of CHEVRON;-) which btw closed at $76.69 the other day - ExxonMobil at $67.61}

However since refineries don't build themselves overnight {or sprout up like mushrooms} - as first there are the multitudes of studies, hearings, then licensing, bidding, contracts, etc.etc - it will take years before a single NEW REFINERY will ever be even started. So this will give the libs equal opportunity to do their own protesting & picketing & carrying around signs declaring "NEVER IN OUR STATE IN A MILLION YEARS" or "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY STATE"!! & so on.

AND by then it will be some OTHER Administrations migraine.

to Bill - we don't profess to know how the commodities market works - but if the price of a barrel of crude oil is Texas sweet PLUS $5 foreign oil shipping - then no wonder we don't ever seem to save that much at the pumps!

BUT how come if our good neighbors to the north have so much oil to spare - then why are CANADA's fuel prices always even higher than ours?! {ouch now ~we're getting a headache - or can y'all spare a few bucks so that we can go out & buy us some shares of BP;-) wow their Div is $3.36 a share!}

Anyway Happy shares to all & to All a good day :o) no matter where y'all from or what your beliefs . . . HAPPY EGG DAY {being pc}

I am just a ignorant tea party wannabe. I thought Texas sweet oil went for Mid-East sweet + $5.. $5 being cost of freight.

Wow that was two LONG sentences there dude -- almost missed the 1st period & thought it was ONE really long sentence . . . just about passed out reading it!

Ur comments are certainly ENTERTAINING though. Hugged any redwoods lately;-)

So whadaya been smokin? Heard Humboldt County's been thinkin 'bout goin legal . . . that'll be the day, huh?!

Though KENNY OF TN is clearly TOO uptight for his own good -- should try some of that fine Tennessee sippin' whiskey to calm his frazzled nerves - seein' Tea Partiers behind every bush like that must be plumb frightful. Maybe somebody really oughta tell him that we've been "drilling offshore in the lower 48" for about as long as most folks can remember! {poor thing must not get out much}

anyway -- YOU BETCHA . . . KEEP BUYING CANADIAN {they need the paper to roll their gaspers!}

AND who knew the price of a barrel of oil was based on good ole Texas sweet crude?

tiger lily of DC 2:18AM April 04, 2010

Keep the few mile USA shoreline, do not protect as other Countries do with more distance. Let Cuba along with other Countries drill and remove our offshore oil reserves.

We don't want that vast dirty oil we have. We'll buy our oil from other Countries ! It helps our economy ?

Bill Hedges of MO 1:22AM April 04, 2010

maybe they should open up CA if they afraid FL oil could be leak in the ocean and screwing the spot of population of tourist maybe should try to thril on CA coast instead that would make the the tree hugger and hippies from the liberal side one heck of mad but they coward let their state suffer from pay high tax for emision and high prices for car, and they don't wana sacrifice their life to go to another country to fight for it since they don't wana dig oil from our country, May be the British was right American only pick the right option when all the wrong option have fail. But even open Alaska, both coast, and some desert states like Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico with the amount the car that the world would demand fuel to spend on because China, India, and Pakistan population are growing, even we try to saving money on gas so we won't have to pay for higher gas it won't work because it have only increased it up to 15-20% according to CNN so we won't see much drop on gas prices neither, Liberal in CA are coward, they want cheap gas good prices creating job but they don't wana sacrifice anything only make folk from other states surender their nature resource to them for their ride enjoymen, the only law they ever pass that help making money was that thing on health reform, free drug for all, i bet that idiot got burn alive near Compton HS in LA probaly he get so high on jihad didn't know that he burn himself or get burn by medical weed dispenser center because he over used his medical and can't paid them anymore so they took his life because he can't paid the money back like drug dealer usually do in the movies to a bunch of cracked hobo that own them money and can't pay them back.

Just like McCain who has totally flip flopped on everything he previously supported so as to kowtow to conservative ragtagers, all the Right is flip flopping on supporting drilling offshore in the lower 48. Everyone is running scared because the US gets most its gas and oil from a socialist country like Canada. Lions Tigers and bears, oh my! It must be a partisan trap to go along with Democrats repeating Sarah Palin's only campaign slogan.

Creating befuddled distrust is the name of the game and befuddlers like Roff are sure flip flopping out, first losing on HCR and now losing their favorite slogan. What do they have left to defend - fiscal accountability Michael Steele-style, repealing healthcare to bring back health insurance larceny, or how about defending Wall Street against reform?

OBAMA WANT COAL PLANT FOR HIS HOME STATE, FORGET THE COST…

“New coal plant for Illinois rises from ashes”

“The agreement will at least temporarily resurrect the so-called FutureGen project, which the Bush administration had discontinued in 2008, citing rising cost estimates. The plant is expected to cost more than $2.4 billion, including five or so years of operating costs, U.S. Sen. Sen. Dick Durbin said this morning. Earlier estimates had put the cost at around $1.5 billion or more.”

“President Obama supported FutureGen when he was a senator from Illinois. Even before he won the White House, Illinois lawmakers, led by Democrat Durbin, were pushing Obama to revive the project if elected. Durbin's staff worked for five months after Obama's inauguration to help broker a deal, and Durbin met frequently with Chu on the subject.”

“Many large countries contain significant proven reserves of coal. While data quality varies widely, the countries with the greatest estimated recoverable reserves of coal are” --

“United States 273 billion tons

Russia 173 billion tons

China 126 billion tons

India 93 billion tons

Australia 90 billion tons”

Right now alternative fuel can not compete on equal footing with oil and gas. Just like new technology is making shale feasible today, someday alternative fuel will gain technology to be feasible but not there now..

We will have gas cars for many decades. Have use for oil and natural gas for long time.

Each source of energy will be vital to America.
