At least he is changing parties because of his conscious instead of for financial or personal gains. More members of congress could be better by doing the same.

I find it amusing that you refer to Huntsville as a "university town". Huntsville is known as "Rocket City". Amply nicknamed, Huntsville's main economic influence is derived from aerospace and defense technology. Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville is home to the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command as well as NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. The Cummings Research Park (CRP) is made up of a variety of defense contractors and commercial corporations. Cummings is the second largest research park in the United States and the fourth largest in the world. In your defense, Huntsville does have three universities and one technical school, but to label Huntsville a "university town" is very misleading!

Are you kidding with your comment ? No impact? Republicans will only be in the South? I think you had better check the great states of Washington and Utah before you make statements that have no foundation.

He didn't vote with Democrats, and was one in name only. He is like other "Dixie-crats" - migrating to the Republicans.

His may be a more commendable change - his predecessors left due to race and class changes when Blacks were given equal rights. This guy is just very conservative. In today's highly charged world, people are accused by party leadership of being traitors to the South if they side with a Black president. That is political suicide in Alabama, so he has to change.

Ultimately - the Republicans will be all southern, none left in the north or west. This change was a foregone conclusion. Not a loss to the Democrats.

They never had him at the national level.
