Catholic Bishops Weigh in Against Abortion Compromise in Health Reform Bill

Knock, knock

The Catholic Church reps are at the Senate door, and they do not want healthcare to fund elective abortions.

Well why should the Senate care what the Catholic Church wants. If any institution had just ONE of their raping-kids-and-hiding-the-guilty-in-the-chancery scandals, that place would be shut down forever.

Besides why should the Senate listen to a non-taxpayer?

(see, how easy it is, Pauline?)

Ring, ring. Someone'e calling you. It is your senator telling you that she is authorizing an invasion of Iran to protect Israel.

Heck, I do not want to protect Israel, or attack Iran. Let Israel fight her own battles. Why should I have to allow my tax dollars to be used?

Because I am a US citizen, a democracy, and while I do not always get what I want, it is legally binding for me to follow the laws and pay taxes.

Somebody mentioned Currently, a 60-year-old likely would pay five or six times more for private medical insurance than someone in his twenties but it may not be true always check http://bit.ly/7bwEx2 for lower price coverages

This is how I see the current Senate language

Knock, Knock. There is someone at your door. It’s a neighbor and they need financial help. They explain they are expecting a baby but they just found out their baby is a girl and they want a boy so they need money for an Elective abortion. You explain that you are personally against abortion so you decline to offer financial support. They counter with saying we understand but they say they don’t have enough money for their car payment and pay for an abortion so they promise you that if you give them financial support they will spend your money on their car payment which will free up the their car payment money to pay for the abortion. They say that should clear up any moral issues for you, and the US Senate agrees wholeheartedly with them.

Knock, Knock. There is someone at your door. It’s a neighbor and they need financial help. They explain they are expecting a baby but they just found out a promotion opportunity has come open at work for the mother so they have changed their minds and want to terminate the pregnancy. You explain that you are personally against abortion so you decline to offer financial support. So they and the Senate say…

Knock, Knock. There is someone at your door. It’s a neighbor and they need financial help. They explain they just found out they are expecting they explain they just can’t seem to get that discipline, responsibility thing down. The previous 3 times this happened they aborted but they don’t have the money this time. You explain that you are personally against abortion so you decline to offer financial support. So they and the Senate say…

Knock, Knock. There is someone at your door. It’s a neighbor and they need financial help. They explain they are expecting a baby and it is quite late in the pregnancy. They have changed their mind and because it’s late the Doctor is recommending a Partial-Birth Abortion. You explain that you are personally against abortion so you decline to offer financial support. So they and the Senate say…

The number of sex selection abortions in the USA number in the thousands and the number is growing. Even China has outlawed sex selective abortions because it is causing an imbalance of genders.

The number of abortions performed on women who are seeking their 4th abortion or more is estimated to be over 70,000 per year per Planned Parenthood statistics.

It does not matter if your state has banned, such Elective abortions like Partial Birth abortions after “viability” there are many states that have no such viability restrictions. In essence per the Senate language you are asked to help fund other states abortions that would not be allowed in your own state. Remember this is not about the legality of abortion or abortions that involve the life of the mother, rape or incest this is about who PAYS for “Elective” abortions.

has always been had her share of cowards, traitors, heretics, deviants and miscreants. Like a plague of parasites they will be with us always, and men of piety and honor will continue to winnow them out.

I am reminded of a passage in the gospels when, after a particularly hard teaching from Jesus, many of his followers walked away - leaving only his closet disciples around him. And Jesus asked Peter, "Why didn't you leave me as well?"

Peter answered, "Where would we go? You have the words of God."

I suppose that's why the Church remains, even after 2000 years, the center of life for tens of millions of orthodox Catholics - for even after her myriad of self inflicted wounds, she still holds the words and truth of God.

"Human life, from conception to the hour of our natural death, must be respected and cherished."

While I do fault the Catholic bishops on the clergy child abuse scandal, I find more than a bit of irony in criticism of the bishops on that score by those who would have the government/taxpayers subsidize the killing of unborn babies.

If abortions for the poor need to be subsidized, why not look to the industry that makes the money on abortions? Why not demand that Big Abortion do the subsidizing?

While I fault the Catholic bishops on the clergy child abuse scandal, I would say there is more than a little bit of irony in people criticizing the bishops on that score while advocating the killing of unborn babies at government/taxpayer expense.

If abortions for the poor need to be subsidized, why not look to the industry promotes promiscuity and makes all the money off abortion? Let Big Abortion do the subsidizing.

Perry,

Although I can't condone the lack of action by the American Bishops, statistics from the insurance industry show Protestant Ministers are 50% more likely to abuse than a Catholic Priest.

In fact, in my city, there were 4 priests accused in 40 years. 6 Protestant ministers went to jail in the last year alone.

Interesting that the press doesn't report this bill as it is written. It ends the 30 year Hyde amendment against using taxpayer funding for abortions. The fact that the pro-abortion side thought they could slide it thru is the only reason there is still discussion.

None of the proposed amenddments would make abortion illegal. They only require the individuals to pay for it. Abortions will still be legal and relatively inexpensive.

Please don't ask me as a taxpayer to fund a medical procedure that ends a human life.

Dan of OH 7:07PM December 18, 2009

About those American Bishops (and the Irish ones as well). Where were they when the priests they ordained were busy molesting children, mostly young boys, entrusted to their care? We all know the answer to that question, don’t we? They were occupied by covering up the abuse while telling the faithful, mostly women, to increase and multiply.

The Roman Catholic church has lost the moral authority to dictate to me and you and the rest of America as to how we should live our lives.

I wonder, though I suspect I know the answer, if Senator Ben Nelson, refused to accept the health insurance we taxpayers give him because it so offended him. After all, it does include abortion coverage.
