Comrade Grundy,

I happen to totally agree with David. The government was established to govern in a honest way. Obviously they have taken many wrong turns along the way. I know many people that just sit on their lay butts and complain that they don't get enough free stuff from the government. That is total BS. The people I am talking about are all capable of working for a living but they are just to darn lazy to do it. I do not like the taxes I pay being used for people that will not at least try and make their own way.

Cheers David, don't let that liberal drag you down.

After the way Boxer treated the Gen -who was giving her far more respect than what she deserved -being called Ma'am -which clearly says you out rank me -well proved the real tittle Boxer deserves rhymes with ditch. Certainly does not deserve to be called Senator. Really hope we can defeat her in 2010!

You want a senator who spends most of their time posing for magazine covers...

Carly is a total incompetent - almost fired from Lucent, before getting hired by HP, then fired by HP - and then fired by the McCain Campaign.

Having worked with her at HP, she is a walking gaffe machine - worse than Joe Biden. Besides her "elevator pitch" she has nothing.

If you want to see mincemeat, wait till she gets on a show like Hardball - or do you expect her to only give friendly interviews like Sarah Palin???

Nominally I am still a Democrat, but I am disgusted with the party as well as Obama's escalation of operations in Afghanistan, and his siding with the bankers and the elite at the expense of regular people.

I am learning that the right vs left idea is complete hypnosis, see the pendulum? Left, right, left, right... Our problems are not horizontal, they are vertical!! Big, greedy corporations on the right, or big, greedy unions or government agencies on the left -- it doesn't matter. To the fatcats at the top, WE THE PEOPLE are just revenue producing cattle, or pawns in their global power play. And we take their bait!!! We point fingers and fight with each other, left, right, left, right... dissipating our power while the powerful elite simply do what they want, lie in order to justify their actions, and control our lives. Who serves who?

Common people, whether left-minded or right-minded, can agree on this! And with goodwill they can negotiate, craft and create mutually satisfying solutions to any problem. But not when the elite on either side keep baiting us, and we keep swallowing their lies.

In the article, it says that Carly Fiorina favors:

"lowering taxes, improving the climate for job creation and innovation, and hacking back on federal spending and regulation."

THINK ABOUT THE ORDER OF THESE ITEMS. Why lowering taxes first? Reagan started the voodoo economics trend, and Bush II ran us into the ground with it, such that now over 50% of all our spending goes JUST to pay the interest on our soaring debt!! The debt continues to compound, and we're not even diminishing the principal.

Then look at the last thing on the list, seemingly the lowest priority of the three. It doesn't even take a high school education to know that if you hack back on federal spending and get our debt under control, the government's revenue will automatically increase, and lowering taxes can then flow easily and naturally!! Because get this, the debt itself is a tax!

When are we going to have a candidate that understands that you can't borrow your way out of debt any more than you can drink yourself sober? If you cut taxes BEFORE you cut government spending, you only raise the debt! So cutting taxes first benefits who? The elite bankers, who make their money off the interest!! And of course don't have to pay as much tax on their earnings. Double benefit to THEM, more debt burden (tax) to WE THE PEOPLE.

I am extremely wary of a candidate that STARTS their list with lowering taxes. To me it's the sign of a fatcat who wants primarily to benefit the wealthy, while WE THE PEOPLE continue to be seen as incidental cattle, or just revenue producing units, instead of their bosses.

Fiorina did not save HP and it was not a dying company when she arrived. Only someone with little or no business sense could make those statements. Far from saving HP what she did manage to do was see its market share drop during her tenure.

She also managed to alienate the workforce by implying that they were failures. This was a workforce that helped to make HP the world's largest technology company before she arrived.

Sure HP had its problems before she arrived but reality is its problems continued to increase during her tenure do to her poor leadership.

Is she the kind of person we need in the Senate? I don’t think so.

I know you probably live near Moscow, Idaho, but down here in the Heartland among the patriots where we love and support our country, we don't use the term "Comrade". Once again, you are making some rash assumptions about my views on the solution to the health care issue. Once again, consistent with close minded extremists who have no interest in looking for a solution. John Kenneth Galbraith once said "Faced with the choice between changing their mind, and proving there is no need to do so, most people get busy on the proof." Sadly, this seems to be frequently accurate in our world today. I don't know what the right answer is, but the fact that we are the only civilized country in the world that hasn't figured this out should say something. We are the only country that kicks our sick and downtrodden (or as you might say - Stupid jerks that have made stupid choices) to the curb. Your mind set that everyone in this country could be rich and comfortable if they had only made better choices is like something out of Alice in Wonderland.

grundy of IL 12:33PM December 01, 2009

Comrade Grundy,

You have a rather Hobbesian view of government in that government's role is to save us from ourselves.

I tend to have a Lockeian view of government in that government's role is limited.

You believe in cradle to grave. You believe that man is essentially a stupid imbecile, incapable of thinking for himself. That government is created out of an irrational fear. A fear of every problem. So much so, that are willing to give up all our rights and that of our neighbor so that government can solve all of our problems and needs.

I believe man is capable of making good choices and responsible enough to accept the consequences of bad choices. Therefore, man has little need of government. Government's role is to create an environment conducive to peace and prosperity. Government sets the general guidelines and framework and we are left to pursue our own designs. Government's role is limited: National defense, police, public health and safety (not to be confuse with providing health care for the citizenry. Rather, epidemics, food inspection, public transport . . . it's traditional role)

.

But, the question, comes down to our core belief of what is the nature of man; is he good or is he evil; can he be trusted or should he be feared; is he capable of being responsible or is he by his very nature irresponsible.

The answer to the question is a based on our disparate views, attitudes, beliefs, experiences, culture, etc.

I believe power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Therefore, the power of government must be constrained and limited. We have to be wary and vigilante as every new crop of government leaders seeks to acquire and gain more power then the last.

I believe that man is basically born good. Being the oldest of 6 and having 4 children of my own, my experience tends to support my belief. I also happen to be raised and live in a moral community. We have not been corrupted by drugs, gangs, violence, prostitution, etc. I therefore lack have not become jaded. I have, however, lived in areas where this was not the case. Yet even in those areas, I found good people with a strong belief in the basic goodness of others.

I believe that man chooses his own destiny because they choose their own path in life. I believe that since you have the freedom to do as you please, then you have responsibility to accept the consequences of your choices. You don't take away another's freedom as ransom for the consequences of where your choice.

Sure, there should be free health care, and I don't mind being taxed to pay for it. So long as the receipient is incapable of providing for themselves. I'm talking about children, the mental/physically handicapped, the aged, and those who suffered traumatic events.

But a fat, smoking, alcoholic? I don't think so.
