mayne im jus a junior at reagan high school.. and i think that the constittution helped alot of our states come a lil closer and be united as a nation. thank all the founding men for our constitution, many of our races are now barely acknowledging what the constituion does for us... "Life Liberty and the Persuit of happiness" is our rights and we not always had them so as a junior in high school we should take advantage of that, and make sure we live the way we feel.

i think the constitution helps me relize that today in my life as a young black woman i have rights, unlike decades ago (if i would have lived in that lifetime) things would have been extremely different and very difficult for me to maintain that kind of life.

Sorry Peter, but the words and meaning of the document have been "interpreted" to the point of disfigured distortion by decades of judicial activism.

The Supreme Court has been entirely politicized and merely reflects the personal agenda and political affiliations of the "Tribunal of Nine". Personal whimsy and caprice guide many justices - not jurisprudence or the rule of law.

The most egregious examples are Roe v Wade and a dozen 1st Amendment decisions restricting religious freedom - locking God in the same closet where we once kept pornography before it was beamed into our living rooms, and plastered all over billboards on Main Street

The Constitution is written in plain English. It’s not a long document and it can be easily understood by just about anyone. A little historical perspective helps, but it was written by men who wanted it understood by and to protect the common people. Why then do, “we the people”, allow the Federal Courts and The Supreme Court to continually interpret it based on their individual ideals and political agenda? The members of these courts swear an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to distort it. It is our acquiescence in this that I find so saddening.

The Constitution is what defines the character of our nation. It puts a face on the land and imbues rights and values to the people. It defines the role of Government and sets limits on its power. The Constitution and, in particular, The Bill of Rights set us apart from other nations. It espouses ideals shared by all peoples, but sadly, often denied to them. It is the moral strength and legal compass of our country, and whenever it is subverted, for any purpose and by whatever authority, it weakens the collective character and scars the face of our nation.

black extremist people using race issued take the constitution and shove them up ya ass 1 by 1. Ya have to go to the A room and Extremist Political to hear the true way they feel about the constitution, Congress was place to be debate about law before they can vote for them to make them become law don't know what r they pissed about when Wilson spoken out loud his opinion and for the worry of the people in his district, the democrat screw it up try to sensor him they know he was right so they couldn't sensor him right their on the spot so they have to used other sources to attack him and have to wait for thing to cool down b4 they could attack him. I who ever want to shut down the fair debate suck because they frear Obama gona lose on this issue. While Obama team try to ask Repbulican in to make the issue big become small and small become nothing so they can make the bill to become law but their are people from the Democrat hardliner like NAACP and like Carter and come out and fire and put more lousy isued on the table ad more fuel to the flame instead of try to help Obama recociliation with the other party to get the bill become law and make more mess instead, Obama doom on bail out bank and auto, 3 trilion USD go to wasted, yesterday on the news 3 milion more was discover that they make put it on a check point that only 3 people crossing that check point aday in the north why not build a wall in the south to prevent drug smuggler and killer from enter our country eligal instead of wasteful spending like that. And also Acorn which is link to Obama main legistical supporters of the Medicare Reform is in some trouble of their own. I bet Obama day are number, i can count them day by day til the people would stand up and say enought is enought and kick him out of the office

Netta, I appreciate you taking the time to leave comment here. I don't usually respond to the notes people leave but something you said leaves me wondering --- you wrote "They just are using what the government gave them....Their Rights" which sort of misses the point of everything my piece was about.

The U.S. government does not give people their rights; those rights are a self-evident truth. Further it is the government that gets its power from "We, the people" not the other way around.

Thanks for writing.

I agree, this article should be the example of honoring the Consititution. Except I believe that everyone does things for a reason. Yes maybe that reason maybe shady in a way, but they still have the right to do it. So to say that some people miss use the Constitution is very entertaining. The way the Constitution is set up it protects are unalienable rights. So to say that people miss use it is crazy. They just are using what the government gave them....THeir Rights

I think that this is a very well worded article about the US Constitution. This document allows everybody to live the way that they have been living for there whole lifes and nobody pays enough respect to the men that wrote it for us. Everybody needs to come together on this one day a year and honor the men that made this country the way it is for us.

Peter Roff has wriiten a paper on the works on the constitutition it was a heart felt entry.I recconmend all readers look at this article i feel you will all will be moved. I quote a statement from his article "it is not too much to ask that, for one day a year, that we must immerse ourselves in the language and foundations of our liberties. In this way we can secure the Republic for another generation". This statement moved me i am 17 but someday i hope to become a great writer such as Peter Roff. Thank You Mr. Roff

I think that this is a very well worded article on the US Constitution. If there are things that we need to change about it our government has the power to make it the way that we need it to be. I beleive that everybody needs to come together on this day and horor the men who made the way we live a daily routine for us.

Ryan of TX 3:17PM September 17, 2009

Well put. The article, particularly the quotation below, is a fitting and, indeed, bipartisan indictment. Rarely has our constitution been so gravely misinterpreted and our freedoms so egregiously misused than in the past 8.5 years and by both major political parties.

"There are those who, today, encourage the idea that the Constitution is a living, breathing document—not because the nation it governs is dynamic and ever changing but in order to explain they have the right, even the obligation to bend it and reshape it in ways that accommodate their desires of the moment but run far afield of the Founders' intentions."
