Obama and the Democrats Will Pay Later if They Don’t Hit Reset on Healthcare Now

In his speech to a joint session of Congress Wednesday President Barack Obama doubled down in his support for nationalized healthcare. Hardly a game changer, as Democrats have claimed, Obama reiterated his support for the so-called public option while proposing little that would actually improve the quality of healthcare in the United States.

It's not likely it is going to make much of a difference. CNBC's Larry Kudlow, in an op-ed that appeared Friday, remarked that Wall Street is now betting heavily against the president.

In a strong stock market on Thursday ... health-insurer shares advanced significantly. Cigna increased 5 percent; Health Net almost 5 percent; Humana 3.5 percent; and UnitedHealth Group 1.5 percent. Hospital shares like Community Health Systems and Tenet Healthcare also rallied smartly, climbing about 5 percent each. Drug company Pfizer rose more than 1 percent.

These healthcare stocks would not have rallied the day after the speech if investors believed Obama would get his way on public option. Moreover, any of the plans being presented by the Democrats, even conceptually, will add to the deficit, increase taxes and force many Americans to give up the private insurance they currently have.

Obama's reliance on rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in the existing Medicare program to find the money is little more than a talking point in the same class as the "magic asterisk" invented by Reagan-era OMB Director David Stockman. It's not where the money is. As Kudlow puts it, "There are taxes galore for this $900 billion baby. It includes a 35 percent excise tax on high-end insurance policies, plus billions more in taxes on insurers, drug companies and medical-device makers. Government boards will determine value, quality and quantity for doctors, hospitals and clinical laboratories. Folks who opt out could face a $3,800 tax (based on a family of four)."

It's time to hit the reset button. Congressional Democrats ignore this reality at their own peril.

I laugh when I hear Democrats still blaming their issues on Republicans. Most conservatives I talk to don't even recognize the Republican party anymore as conservative. Conservatives don't want this socialized health care reform program because we can't afford it, we don't believe it will improve anything, we don't believe it will reduce costs and it imposes the government even more into our lives. Get the government out of our lives and our pockets!

I Never Accepted Medicare part D and felt it was not constitutionally correct but I never checked it out. I just ignored health-net who was assigned to me without my permission. I never paid them a dime and never will. Because barker who was the doctor assigned to me without my permission was the biggest quack I have ever met. I have not seen a doctor since. That was about 4 to 6 years ago and I have never felt more healthy.

I only Hope if health care reform, passes we can fire up to seven doctors a year because the next time I hear a doctor say “therapeutic levels” I had better not have a gun on me. I refuse to see another doctor who cheated his/her way through med school or paid for the cheat sheets.

I have epilepsy and Got into a situation where I could not pay the drug pushers So no medication, After six months or so I felt better than I have ever felt. So doctors are not my favorite people. I have no respect for those money hungry Hypocrites And would probably do better With A Witch Doctor and I would probably respect them to.

The best thing that happened to this nation is when bush ran out of time and could do no more harm as President. Medicare d Was what the drug-lords order and bush obeyed. The drug lords being The pharmaceutical companies. And cheney could no longer break the law behind the shield of vice president.

I am doing my best not to form an opinion of republicans, Because except when it comes to doctors I love everybody and I love a good debate and you cannot learn a lot debating with someone who agrees with every thing you say.

It is nice to have a president who had traveled around the country, conducted town halls, and has truly attempted to listen to the people and develop a plan based on thier ideas, and also reach across the aisle in congress. We need health care reform now to help get our country back on the right track after 8 years of stupidity.

It is laughable how (mostly) republicans are whining about taxes when we just got though 8 years of complete and total fiscal irresponsibility which left us in catastopic debt. This fiscal irresponsiblitity of the previous administration was done with out town halls or public input, it was ofter done very underhanded, based on sneeky lies and scare tactics.

I work with seniors who have Medicare, and thanks to repulican funded lies about health care reform, they are scared to death. Reform to medicare means making prescription drugs more affordable for seniors, since mandatory part D plans sure didnt. Also, getting rid of government subsidies to Medicare "Advantage" plans, which provide nothing more than basic medicare, yet cost the Medicare system billions of dollars and leave seniors high and dry when they truly need coverage. The only person getting an advantage are the health insurance companies selling these plans.

Enough is Enough, Pass Health Care Refrom NOW!
