Cheney for President in 2012? Republicans Have No One Else

Just had to fix a few typos on my previously posted comment that have been bugging me. Below I have written a revised version of the same comment I previously posted...

I agree. Dick Cheney is one of the only strong leaders left on the republican forefront. He may appear to be a heartless bastard, but he's a strong leader who had shown ability to take action as a leader. In contrast to Obama he seems very unflinching when faced potential controversy. He's willing to make risky decisions. If no strong democrat is willing to challenge Obama I feel we'll need a strong Republican challenger in the race.

I think Al Gore or Hillary Clinton should run though. Despite the off put both politicians' previous campaigns for presidency may provide, they both should consider running a possibility. In the 1960 presidential election, then Vice President, Richard M. Nixon lost to John F Kennedy. Nixon still was able to rebound and successfully elected president 1969. Nixon also succeeded to receive re-election in 1972. We all know Nixon at the very least appeared, and likely was, corrupt. We all realize he resigned due his speculation of his alleged involvement in the Watergate Scandal. I'm only using him as an example, not as a role model.

Nixon lost to Kennedy receiving just forty-nine point percent of the Popular Vote, and two hundred nineteen votes in the Electoral Collage. In the 2000 election Gore lost by technicality receiving the majority of the Popular Vote, but failing to receive Electoral Majority. He had once previously ran for president in the 1988 election, ultimately dropping out of the race. Hillary lost in a close race. She'd also be a fine candidate.

A unlikely alternate on the Republican front would be having George H. W. Bush (Bush Sr.) run. As stated it's unlikely, especially considering he'd by a large margin be the eldest president to serve. He'd also be only the second president, if successful, to serve two non consecutive terms after only Groover Cleveland. His health, additionally paired with his age, pose a threat to this possibility.

Cheney also, only by a small margin, would be the oldest person to assume the presidency. This though would be a minute factor considering that his age only would be a few years senior to Reagan (the eldest _resident to assume the office). The condition of his health though might pose an off putting question to voters.

Of course we always have the possibility of a wild card candidate, or a very strong third party candidate.

In the upcoming months we'll just wait to see if any new candidate arises with promise of positive leadership. We need a viable candidate. We need a good leader. But what makes a good leader in the first place is a huge debate.

Nixon lost by 49.6% to Kennedy. Gore lost (by technicality) with 48.4%. Hillary lost in a close race. She'd also be a fine candidate.

Dick Cheney is a war mongering profiteer of gargantuan proportions. He is the chief perpetuator of getting what he wants through fear and lies. Unfortunately there are still slackjawed Americans who believe there is a boogie man in the middle east out to get us when the real terrorist is Dick Cheney and his neocon fascist allies.

Dick Cheney has my vote anytime for any office, especially President. The World needs a good dose of Real American Leadership. Tested and unshaken, Cheney rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does no-one realize Dick Cheney IS the President of the United States? George Bush's Presidency expired due to 3rd term restrictions in the Constitution...Obama is not a U.S. Citizen and has never proven otherwise, pelosi was never sworn as President, so Cheney IS the President of the United States currently....and if you don't believe this, we'll waterboard your ass!

Dick Cheney made the tough decision go take us into Iraq. He personally worked with staff level analysts at the CIA to interpret data and conclude that Iraq under Saddam had Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).

In hindsight, its become obvious that there were no WMD, and that no other Vice President in history has ever been to the CIA for anything other than a ribbon cutting, let alone going there to work with staff on a weekly basis.

Even Bush when presented with the CIA / Cheney conclusions about Iraq having WMD's quite famously said "that's it? That's all we have." To which Cheney replied "Don't worry, it's a slam dunk Sir."

In the years since the Invasion it has become clear that Cheney likely led us into Iraq because it is thought to have the world's second largest supply of oil. "Thought to have" because Iraq has been at war and under a dictator's control for many years and the oil supply is "unproven."

Dick Cheney made the tough decision to take us into Iraq to secure our oil security. A democratized Iraq will develop this oil and forestall the oil shock and ensuing economic and political kayos it may bring for many years.

How can he run for office (again)? I got the distinct impression Cheney has already had our top office twice. While there he brought us into wars we can't afford, decreased availability of funds for things we needed, e.g. education, and did his best to create a national consciousness of fear and isolationism and a recession that the Obama Administration is digging us out of steadily but surely.

I do realize however that he was only de facto president; he wasn't an elected president. As such, he can legally run in 2012. But logically speaking, is it safe even for those who would vote for him?

Cheney will be 71 in 2012. He has history of heart disease that includes four heart attacks (that the public knows of). The most basic Internet search of his health record since 2000 also includes (1) implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defribrillator to address his an irregular heartbeat that was potentially fatal, (2) surgery to repair popliteal artery aneurysms, (3) deep vein thrombosis and (4) treatment for atrial fibrillation in addition to back strain and other “relatively minor” ailments which didn't receive significant coverage.

Even if I were a Republican who loved this man, in good conscience, and realistically speaking, I would consider his age and medical history in the same category as McCain’s was – far too much of a risk for the country to consider his candidacy with any credibility.

I'd vote for Cheney in a skinny minute.

For those of you born yesterday, let's look back at the VP debates of 2000 and 2004. Cheney and Leiberman had a respectful and intelligent debate, but you could definetly tell Leiberman was out-gunned. Edwards on the other hand was like an schoolboy being lectured by his stern professor.

Cheney has a complete knowledge of ALL of the issues and conveys them pointedly and without any vagueness whatsoever. Unlike the current resident of the Oval Office, he is perfectly able to discuss an issue without need for a teleprompter, or the need to consult his buddies Rahm Emmanuel, Saul Alinsky, Jeremiah Wright, or William Ayers.

Obama is taking us on a path that will make European Socialism look moderate and I can only hope that someone like former VP Cheney will keep speaking out and yes, run for the White House in 2012.
