I love that Republicans only quote Rasmussen. I guess when there's only one poll in the world still skewed your way, you don't have much of a choice do you?

There was a time when Democats had the capability to govern. Once the party was taken over by liberals they lost this ability.
The Republicans have frequently failed as well, due to the desire of many to be loved by liberals.
Hopefully Republicans have learned that the only way to be loved by liberals (assuming liberals are capable of loving anything other than evil) is to become a liberal Democrat.
When liberals lie,and conservatives don't tell the truth the thinking voter is left with few choices.

The current mess really started after the Democrats re-took Congress. Check the Treasury and CBO websites and see when the 4 TRILLION of US debt under GWB really took off.
The only excuse for Government to spend more than it haves is War or Natural disaster and GWB had both. So during 8 years with 911, Katrina, Ike and 2 war fronts Bush had $500 Billion per year deficit.
The Obama/Pelosi/Reid team have racked up 1.8 TRILLION for the 1st year with an even BIGGER deficit for 2010.
You people can do basic math, can't you?

After a year and a half plus of ression of course people are upset. I think that the big problem with health care is Obama is to far to the right for most of the country. As to the rest, as has often been said most people want action yesterday. Slow improvement as we now see is easy to complaign about. Yes, its the economy stupid but it is where will the economy be in November 2010. Obviously the Republican are betting it will be the same or worse. We Demorats are taking that bet and expect to collect big time.

Given the huge steaming piles George W. Bush left behind, it will probably get worse for President Obama before it gets better. It's harder to fix things than to break them.
That said, Rasmussen is primarily a Murdoch tool, so Roff's piece is basically drivel on drivel.
There are a couple numbers I do find interesting. Twenty one percent (21%) of Americans are still willing to identify themselves as Republican. Another poll shows that twenty percent (20%) of Americans prefer socialism to capitalism (including 33% of young people). Interesting, huh?
The Socialists, who really don't have a cohesive national organization, are within one percentage point of the Republicans. As the Republicans keep purging and purifying, the challenge for the Democrats will come from their left, not the right. It'll be fun.

Dear Mr. Roff: I was probably a little unfair and hard on you and your POV in my prior comment. You are a highly educated and studied individual and, therefore, should know better. Perhaps FDR stated it best concerning your POV, and Russen and Fox News, when he noted, "A conservative is a person with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward".
My folks were Union organizers during McCarthism and I also helped organize both before and after my two military enlistments. What I learned is that both the left and right can go to far (as happened with the far right neocons of the last administration). The upshot is an 'out of balance' government. The new administration has a challange equal to what FDR inherited. Let me suggest that instead of being a 'nay sayer' that we all get unboard and help this adminsitration achieve its goals, for the sake of all of us, not just the few.
Profits, surpluses, etc., even in the Muslin world that bans interest, are essential for businesses and governments, but not profits beyond all understanding. Today, as in 1932, it is clear that laissez faire capitalism is as dangerous as any fascist or socialist dictatorship, and perhaps even more so since it was operated under the guise of 'freedom and democracy', when in fact it is controlled entirely by the few and the rich.
There are two basic forms of governments that have attempted many differenct political, social, and military methods to achieve there end. The first is one that believes that the purpose of government is to protect the opulent rich form the masses. The second is one that believes that the purpose of government is to do the most it can, for the good of the most people, with the money that it has or (as in this case) the money that is needed in an emergency.
I hope, for the sake of all of us, Mr. Rodd et al., that you find your compassionate and humanist side, leave the opulent rich to there own, and join and support the great American working class. Then, with all your knowledge, you may also learn to walk forward.
