The Obama-Romney Race Is Down to the Wire
Tweet Share on Facebook November 2, 2012 CommentIf the polls are to be believed, the 2012 election is shaping up to be one of the closest in the nation's history. If the polls are to be believed.

Tweet Share on Facebook November 2, 2012 CommentLet's say you have $5 million lying around, money you're willing to let go in support of a good cause. I wonder what you could do with it?

Mitt Romney’s Pennsylvania Play—Confidence? No, Desperation.
Tweet Share on Facebook November 2, 2012 CommentMitt Romney is making his long teased loafers-on-the-ground foray into Pennsylvania on Sunday. This is will mark the most substantive aspect of his attempt to expand the electoral map, after his campaign and its allies went on the television ad offensive in states Minnesota, Michigan, and the Keystone State. So is this a sign of strength, as the Romney campaign is portraying it, or a sign of desperation as Team Obama is spinning it? It looks more like desperation and I'll tell you why.

Why Mitt Romney’s Lead With ‘Independents’ Doesn’t Matter
Tweet Share on Facebook November 2, 2012 CommentThe Romney campaign is counting on independent voters to carry their man across the finish line. "The race is going to come down to independents," Romney pollster Neil Newhouse told reporters on a conference call Wednesday. "It's simply cold, hard math. In 23 of the 25 national polls released in the last month … Mitt has led among independents … by 7 points." And he's right—Romney has had a consistent lead among self described independents, but he's wrong when he suggests that independents will swing the election.

Don't Be Suspicious of Chris Christie's Hurricane Sandy Motives

No, the Elite Media Doesn’t Get To Decide the Election
Tweet Share on Facebook November 1, 2012 CommentI have as much respect as the next person for the power of the media and conventional wisdom (OK, maybe a bit less), but too often the Beltway press overindulges in its smug estimations of its own importance. Time's Mark Halperin was guilty of that sin this morning on Morning Joe.

Abortion Could Cost Democrats Pennsylvania, Virginia Senate Seats
Tweet Share on Facebook November 1, 2012 CommentPro-life Democrats are a dying breed. This has been a problem for the party, which still depends on extraordinary good will, particularly among Catholics, to win state and local elections.
Abortion, like same-sex marriage, is one of those "settled" issues for Catholics, meaning there is no dispute about the official church position, which is to oppose both. Therefore, when the Democrats do find a candidate for federal office they can label as "pro-life," it is an occasion for rejoicing—even though they realize it won't make much of a difference in how that candidate votes once elected on important or close issues at the end of the day.
