Harry Reid’s Despicable Mitt Romney Rumor-Mongering
Tweet Share on Facebook August 6, 2012 CommentEver since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid used the Senate floor to tell the world that former Massachusetts governor and likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney had not paid his taxes, I received a number of tips from confidential sources who chose to remain anonymous about Reid himself.

White House Games Can't Hide Obama's Economic Failures
Tweet Share on Facebook August 6, 2012 CommentThe White House deserves some credit for revising downward their short-term economic growth estimates. The problem is that they once again predict a miniboom (boomlet?) generated by, you guessed it, President Barack Obama's policy in a second term. While economic predictions are almost as numerous as economists, the president has proven to be seriously mistaken on matters ranging from the stimulus to Solyndra. Obama has repeatedly promised the American people that his policies and economic agenda would make things better, but they haven't. Remember what Obama had already promised would result from his initial stimulus during an address in 2009?

Mitt Romney on Judging the Record on Jobs and the Economy
Tweet Share on Facebook August 3, 2012 CommentLet's engage in an exercise in intellectual honesty and spin control. I'll give a couple of quotes and you guess whether they were uttered by an Obama campaign hack defending the tepid economy or by Mitt Romney.

Tax Returns and Now Tax Policy—What’s Mitt Romney Hiding?
Tweet Share on Facebook August 3, 2012 CommentYou'd think Mitt Romney's campaign would be happy about the report this week by the Tax Policy Center—the demands for the former Massachusetts governor to release more of his tax returns have finally been quieted. Of course they're none too pleased that the obsession with his making public more tax returns has been replaced by calls for him to release more of his tax plans.

Obama's Nuclear Arms Control Approach Won't Make Us Safer
Tweet Share on Facebook August 3, 2012 CommentImagine that you're a graduate school international relations professor and one of your grad students has turned in his seminar paper. It outlines a new and imaginative, supposedly fool-proof plan for ridding the world of the specter of nuclear terrorism.

The Navy's Attempt to Go Green Is Costly and Inefficient
Tweet Share on Facebook August 3, 2012 CommentJust about everyone agrees the purpose of the United States Navy is to protect the "freedom of the seas," a time-honored tradition that effects not just America but just about every nation on earth. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, however, seems to have a different idea—which may be why he has been leading the charge on behalf of the Obama administration to show off the fleet's green potential.

We Must Debate Gun Control Before Memory of Aurora Fades
Tweet Share on Facebook August 2, 2012 CommentThe funerals are over, so we will soon forget the tragedy in Aurora, Colo. and the 12 people whom James Holmes reportedly killed there. The only things that will make us remember the slaughter in Aurora are our consciences. But we'll have the same discussion soon when the same thing happens somewhere else.

Romney Should Use Jobs Report to Draw Contrast With Obama
Tweet Share on Facebook August 2, 2012 CommentTime flies when you are having fun—it has been a month since the last middling jobs report and it is time for another one. Jobless claims rose for the last week of July, indicating that the general consensus among economists is correct—the upcoming report is not going to show anything close to a rosy picture.

Olympic Fab Five Gymnasts Are Athletes, Not Cute Little Girls
Tweet Share on Facebook August 2, 2012 CommentThe U.S. women's gymnastics team has scored a stunning coup for the United States, winning a gold medal in team competition for the first time in 16 years. But there's a dark, tragic underside to the story, the Washington Post informs us: The teenage girls and women aren't providing the kewpie-doll cuteness and smiles that, it seems, are the real appeal of women's gymnastics.
