Imagine if Barack Obama Pulled a David Cameron With His Daughter
Tweet Share on Facebook June 12, 2012 CommentIt's the silly season of news, and the latest developments from across the Atlantic have me wondering if the British are way too flaky or actually just a little more sensibly relaxed about parenting than we are.

Gun in Campaign Ad for Gabby Giffords’s Seat Is Unconscionable
Tweet Share on Facebook June 11, 2012 CommentIt was a little too close for comfort when the political action committee of former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin used crosshairs in ads to "target" Democrats for defeat. A number of lawmakers had received death threats during and after the vote on healthcare overhaul, and when Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head while she was meeting constituents at a shopping center, the threats became scarier. While it appears that Giffords's shooter was motivated not by ideology but simple craziness, the episode doesn't excuse the tastelessness of using gun-related imagery in connection with the democratic elections process.

Obama's Celebrity Strategy Only Shows How Out of Touch He Is
Tweet Share on Facebook June 8, 2012 CommentFor campaigns, celebrity endorsements can be a mixed bag. On the good side, they can help build the brand—if the celebrity is well known and loved, and his or her image dovetails with the campaign's outreach efforts to voters. In the business world, companies seek out celebrity endorsements for the same reasons, which is why we see tennis great Roger Federer as a celebrity spokesman for Rolex, and Mike Rowe, the Dirty Jobs guy, plugging Ford pick-up trucks, for example. They're good fits for those brands.

Was the Republican Party Always This Greedy?
Tweet Share on Facebook June 7, 2012 CommentI have a keen interest in military strategy and tactics. Probably because I'm a political strategist and tactician. Wednesday night, I watched a documentary on the Military History Channel about the Battle of Leyte Gulf in World War II. The unselfish actions of U.S. sailors there prevented a military disaster and demonstrated what was great about the Greatest Generation.

How Mitt Romney Can Capitalize on Scott Walker's Recall Win
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2012 CommentWe're going to hear a lot in the next few days about how little Gov. Scott Walker's victory in the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election means going forward. Don't believe it. Walker's victory was huge.

Stop Trivializing Breast Cancer
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2012 CommentDespite the brouhaha over the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation's battle with Planned Parenthood, legions of pink-clad walkers were on the streets of Washington last weekend to raise money for breast cancer research. The Komen group's decision (quickly reversed) to stop giving money to the family-planning and women's health network because it was "under congressional investigation" was a distressing one. But the strong turnout last week showed that people are refusing to let one ill-advised move prevent them from paying attention to eradicating a deadly disease.

Obama Should Worry About Scott Walker's and Bill Pascrell's Wins
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2012 CommentThe folks at the White House better do some serious thinking about how they are going to proceed in the future. The returns coming out of Tuesday's election portend trouble ahead for our beleaguered president.
