What the GOP Should Do if Obamacare Falls
Tweet Share on Facebook May 31, 2012 CommentThere's a big debate going on in GOP circles right now over what to do when the U.S. Supreme Court issues its ruling on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care of 2010 or, as you know it, Obamacare.

Barack Obama and George Bush Show Congress How to Act Like Adults
Tweet Share on Facebook May 31, 2012 CommentAt first, it looked like some scene from an old movie, or perhaps something from the History Channel. There was the president of the United States, standing behind a lectern at the White House and paying tribute to his predecessor, a man of a different political party. Then, the former president of the United States got up and thanked the current president for his hospitality and graciousness. The current and former first ladies were honored, as were the current and former presidential daughters.

Mitt Romney Should Put Up or Shut Up on Syria
Tweet Share on Facebook May 31, 2012 CommentIt's time for Mitt Romney to put up or shut up.
It's irresponsible for Romney to criticize President Obama for not being aggressive enough with Syria and then fail to tell Americans how he would handle the crisis if he became president.

Mitt Romney's Colorado Disconnect
Tweet Share on Facebook May 31, 2012 CommentLAKEWOOD, COLO.—Mitt Romney is quickly becoming the Chevy Chase of Colorado politics: the pratfalls are piling up. While the national media focused on the Romney's evening fundraiser with birther Donald Trump Tuesday night, Romney's Tuesday morning in Craig, Colo. wasn't any less embarrassing. As ProgressNow Colorado put it in a press release, "Mitt Romney makes a fool of himself every time he comes to Colorado."

Donald Trump Makes Kim Kardashian Look Good
Tweet Share on Facebook May 30, 2012 CommentIt's fun to make fun of Kim Kardashian. Her whole persona is a bit silly. She's famous for being famous—though it's hard to know how the ball even got rolling. She made a fool of herself with an over-the-top wedding, one which earned her millions of dollars, followed by a speedy divorce. In many ways, Kardashian, while lovely, embodies everything that has gone wrong with popular American culture.

'Transcripters' Make Birthers Look Smart
Tweet Share on Facebook May 29, 2012 CommentHere's something I never thought I'd write: There's actually a dumber group of loopy, conservative, wing-nuts out there than birthers. The group is called "transcripters," and they are bound and determined to get a hold of President Obama's post-secondary grades in order to prove that—wait for it—he wasn't a good student.

Tweet Share on Facebook May 29, 2012 CommentItems related to intellectual property are now such an important part of the total U.S. economy they deserve closer scrutiny.

Is Congress Getting Dumber?
Tweet Share on Facebook May 29, 2012 CommentIs Congress really getting stupider over time? Or are Americans forcing them to act that way?
A report by the Sunlight Foundation shows that members of Congress speak at a grade level that is one full grade lower than lawmakers did just seven years ago. The pattern is more pronounced among newer members, and less pronounced among moderates. And on average, the more individual lawmakers spoke on the floor, the simpler their speech tended to be.

Obama's Remarkable Silence on Latin American Press Abuses
Tweet Share on Facebook May 29, 2012 CommentFreedom of the press is a cardinal American right—a pillar of our democracy, a guarantor of our freedom and our free institutions. Cherished by all Americans, it is perhaps especially sacred to American liberals and the left. Without it, the injustices exposed by the civil rights movement, the government's duplicity about the Vietnam War, the abuses of the Nixon administration and the Watergate scandal—to name but a few landmarks—might never have come to light.
