Rep. Anthony Weiner Should Resign After Twitter Picture Scandal
Tweet Share on Facebook June 8, 2011 Comment (12)Anthony Weiner should leave. He shouldn’t pass Go; he shouldn't collect $200; he shouldn’t allow more details and revelations to follow him around.
It isn’t just what he did. It isn’t just that he lied about it and how he lied. It isn’t even that there is more to come out, in all likelihood.

DNC Chair Ignores Democrats' Jim Crow History
Tweet Share on Facebook June 8, 2011 Comment (16)There are some people out there who don’t like the recent GOP push to make the presentation of a photo ID a pre-condition of being able to cast a ballot. Count among them Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a U.S. representative from Florida.

Sarah Palin and the Wikipedia War Over Paul Revere
Tweet Share on Facebook June 8, 2011 Comment (23)Politicians and movement leaders have long understood one ironic truth: Repeat a misstatement with enough hubris and fierceness, and people will believe it. But the Internet has added a new danger level to that destructive theme.
Witness the push-back by defenders of Sarah Palin, a could-be presidential candidate who wrongly characterized Paul Revere’s Revolutionary War-era ride. Palin, on a family vacation-cum-"SarahPac" promotional tour, told reporters Revere was warning the British that the colonists would not give up their guns. She said Revere rang bells and shot his gun as a warning. Historians disagree (Revere was actually warning his comrades, not the enemy British soldiers), but Palin fans rushed to edit the online encyclopedia Wikipedia to rewrite history, seeking to turn Palin’s misstatement into historical fact. (Wikipedia has since locked the page on Revere while things calm down.)

Rep. Anthony Weiner Joins the Bipartisan Ranks of Stupid Men
Tweet Share on Facebook June 8, 2011 Comment (8)I believe it was Forrest Gump, the character in the movie of the same name who said: “Stupid is as stupid does.” And wow, was he right.
Let me introduce you to some “stupid” men--and I stress men:
Mark Foley, William Clinton, Larry Craig, Mark Sanford, Eliot Spitzer, David Vitter, John Ensign, Chris Lee, John Edwards, Arnold Schwarzenager, and of course, our newest winner of the “stupid” contest, Anthony Weiner. I made this intentionally bipartisan because the issue of men doing stupid things that involve their private parts is clearly bipartisan.

Tim Pawlenty Proposes Insane Economic Plan
Tweet Share on Facebook June 7, 2011 Comment (15)When consuming Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s economic plan, be sure to take extra time to chew—it’s gag-inducing.
First, a quick look at recent history.
In 2008, Sen. John McCain’s campaign platform included a reduction in the corporate income tax from 35 percent to 25 percent. According to a Wall Street Journal report in March of that year, McCain’s economic advisor, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, was “searching for ways to pay for Sen. McCain’s tax proposals.”

Democrats, GOP Should Relish Minority Rules
Tweet Share on Facebook June 7, 2011 Comment (2)One has to wonder why both major political parties spend so much effort and cash trying to get into the majority. It’s so much more fun—and arguably powerful—to be in the minority.

Bush Tax Cuts Turn 10: Wall Street Celebrates, Americans Suffer
Tweet Share on Facebook June 7, 2011 Comment (13)Break out the bubbly, because there will be celebrations today on Wall Street and in corporate boardrooms and mansions all across America. Why? Because today is the 10th anniversary of the big Bush tax breaks for bankers and billionaires and the businesses that bankroll their big-budget campaigns.

Not Enough Shame From Weiner, Palin, Edwards
Tweet Share on Facebook June 7, 2011 Comment (22)June's lovely light brings us to the brink of whether our American democracy will end in tragedy or in farce. Happy endings in American history are lessons handed down as part of our birthright, starting with the midnight ride of Paul Revere. Looking round right now, the state of things isn't a story I'd like our schoolchildren to hear. As we approach the nation's 235th birthday in July, let's gather up pieces of what's going on around here.

Rep. Anthony Weiner Twitter Photo Apology Overdue But Heartfelt
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2011 Comment (29)In a remarkably candid moment Monday, New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted that he had, in fact, “tweeted” a semi-lewd photo of himself to a Seattle-area woman that set off a political firestorm last week after he claimed his Twitter account had been hacked.

Sarah Palin Was Right About Paul Revere
Tweet Share on Facebook June 6, 2011 Comment (83)“Would you believe,” as Maxwell Smart, Secret Agent 86, used to say, that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin knows more about American history than the members of what Rush Limbaugh calls “the drive-by media,” who are currently making fun of her?
Probably not. But she does, at least as far as Paul Revere’s ride is concerned.
