Americans Care About Jobs, Price of Gas Over Deficit, Debt
Tweet Share on Facebook April 28, 2011 Comment (12)It’s the lack of jobs, stupid.
Sorry, James Carville, that’s my take on it. When James Carville stated, “It’s the economy, stupid,” he was right; then and now.

Mitch Daniels, Jon Huntsman Poised to Benefit From Barbour Bow Out
Tweet Share on Facebook April 28, 2011 Comment (9)Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour’s surprise announcement that he would not compete for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination added confusion to what is already a complicated and mysterious presidential race. “Why,” one might ask, “are some of the party’s best potential candidates not running?”

Trump and Obama Birth Certificate Add Up to National Embarrassment
Tweet Share on Facebook April 28, 2011 Comment (58)Politics often presents us with strange ironies, and the absurd birther conspiracy meant to discredit President Obama gives us a doozy. It was the existence of literacy tests for voters that kept African-Americans effectively disenfranchised in southern states until the 1960s. And yet, the persistent lie that the nation’s first (half) African-American president was not really born in the United States is a pretty solid argument for some kind of test—perhaps just one of simple common sense—for voters.

Unions Try to Force 'Card Check' Through NLRB
Tweet Share on Facebook April 27, 2011 Comment (16)Prominent among the alphabet soup of federal regulatory agencies is the National Labor Relations Board, which, according to its website, is “vested with the power to safeguard employees' rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative,” and “acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.”

Obama Birth Certificate Release a Win for Trump and for Obama 2012
Tweet Share on Facebook April 27, 2011 Comment (29)Turning to the pure politics of President Obama's releasing his birth certificate, two winners emerge: Obama and the unendingly ludicrous Donald Trump.
Politico’s Ben Smith gets it exactly right: Both men used the release of the birth certificate to make crucial pivots. Obama used the issue to reinforce his message that he is the adult in a city full of adolescents, children, and wack-jobs, or as the president called them this morning, “sideshows and carnival barkers.” He added: “We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do.”

Medicare Fights at Town Halls Are Healthcare Fight Replay
Tweet Share on Facebook April 27, 2011 Comment (7)The Medicare fight is looking like the healthcare overhaul battles all over again, with angry people (constituents, maybe, but who knows?) screaming at members of Congress who have been holding town hall meetings to discuss the future of the program.

Obama's Birth Certificate Release Won't End Conspiracy Theories
Tweet Share on Facebook April 27, 2011 Comment (27)President Obama released his long-form birth certificate—excuse me, his long-form Certificate of Live Birth—today (scroll down to see it at bottom) and took the surreal step of standing at the White House podium to chastise the media over the whole non-issue. So does this mean that the nutty Obama conspiracy theories that have dogged Obama for more than two years are finally done and over? As the late, great, fictitious Sen. John Blutarsky once said, “What? Over? Did you say ‘over?’ Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!”

The Inventor of the TelePrompTer Dies

Few will recognize the name, but his contribution to political communications is enduring. Schlafly, you see, invented the TelePrompTer.
