Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli's Ruling Makes Abortions Safer
Tweet Share on Facebook August 24, 2010 Comment (14)Today’s Washington Post reports that Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has issued a legal opinion which gives the state Board of Health the ability to write new regulations that would require abortion clinics to be subject to the same health standards as hospitals. (Currently in Virginia, second- and third-trimester abortions are performed in hospitals, and only first-trimester abortions take place in clinics.) The standards include requiring that clinic doctors have hospital privileges and that counselors have professional training. Abortion rights advocates said the regulations could cause 17 of the state’s 21 abortion clinics to shut down, and here are what some of Cuccinelli’s opponents said to the Post:

Why Are Palin, Gingrich, and Fox News Doing Bin Laden's Work?
Tweet Share on Facebook August 24, 2010 Comment (50)I have been told by Fox commentators Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich that to be a good American I should detest Muslims. After all, it was Muslims from Saudi Arabia who steered the airplanes into the Pentagon and the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001. And now they want to build a mosque at ground zero!
But by their own logic, shouldn't I detest Palin and Gingrich? After all, they work for Muslims.

What the Obamas Should Really Do in Martha’s Vineyard
Tweet Share on Facebook August 24, 2010 Comment (8)President Obama and his family are hanging out "on the island," as they like to say over on the beguiling blue vision just across Nantucket Sound from Cape Cod. Martha's Vineyard, named for the daughter of the English sea captain who found and charted it, is not just an enviable state of mind--though it is that in late, lazy summertime when the water's warm enough to swim and scavenge for smooth sea glass on the beach all afternoon.

Anne Frank’s Tree Falls As Holocaust Denial Rises
Tweet Share on Facebook August 23, 2010 Comment (25)How sad and odd, that the so-called Anne Frank tree in Amsterdam should fall at a time when Holocaust denial is growing, especially in the Arab world, according to one White House official.

Blame the Recession for the Deficit, Not Democrats
Tweet Share on Facebook August 23, 2010 Comment (15)At this point, if you’re a Democrat, you might as well throw up your hands, weep, and pray for a better 2012. The “spending spree” charge has stuck to you, and there’s simply nothing you’re going to be able to do about it between now and November.

Is 2010 the Year of Republican Women, or Women’s Decline?
Tweet Share on Facebook August 20, 2010 Comment (4)2010 is either the year of the Republican woman in politics, or it's not. I'm glad TIME Magazine has finally caught up with the realization that Republican women are running for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, and for governor in record numbers. But even Time quotes Rutgers University's Center for American Women and Politics Director Debbie Walsh as saying, they're running but they're not winning their primaries.
