How Obama Can Deal With Rising Gas Prices

Clifton:

We would be very interested in hearing how the "true cost" of gasoline is somehow between $10 - $20, as well as how the State is bearing the majority of cost of bringing it to market.

To argue that fuel taxes should be lower is a baffling, bizarre argument to make. The state bears the bulk of the cost of delivering cheap gasoline to this country, and if only 12% of the price at the pump goes to taxes, then we're getting a ridiculously good bargain.

Do you think $4.00 a gallon is too much? Depending on how you calculate it, it costs somewhere between $10 and $20 to bring it to you. More North American oil would certainly bring this down, but I take the train to work in a city where the fare covers 61% of the full cost; we are never, ever going to bring the full cost of oil down to $7.00 a gallon.

Driving a Hummer around might make you feel like a rugged individualist, but this feeling doesn't hold up to reality.
