Even Cuba Understands What's to Gain from Off-Shore Drilling

Opposing drilling because the occasional seabird will be oil smeared is like opposing the manufacture of automobiles because the occasional crash kills or injures humans.

If only everyone were to stay at home and take up bird watching (of the neighborhood birds only) then there would be no problem.

Maybe some unemployed oil workers could go to Cuba and get a high paying job.

When a Cuban wellhead blows off as happened in the Deepwater Horizon disaster? Who's going to fix it? The nationalized Cuban oil company? Expect oil to be pouring into the Straits of Florida for a long, long time if it's up to the backwards Cuban government to fix and clean up the mess.

Mr. Kish, I'm glad you are on board with Cuba drilling offshore, but I'm cringing at the prospect of another environmental disaster on the gulf coast.

Let me get this straight.

You are using a communist country with a man who conservatives would otherwise roundly denigrate as a two bit dictator as your reference for visionary offshore drilling? This being the same country that has been stuck in the 1960s since the 1960s?

Wow, 'drill, baby, drillers' are indeed batty for cheap oil regardless of oil spills and environmental impact. Oh, I'm sorry I forgot to invoke the 'American business does no harm to the environment' escape clause, now didn't I?

You're keeping good company with Sarah Palin.

If we are willing to nationalize the oil companies, then your idea has merits, otherwise its a joke to think that opening up the gulf or other places will create the jobs or investment instantly. There are still vast areas of oil rich areas, open to the oil companies, that they don't want to invest or drill in, yet. Oh, and Cuba's oil company is NATIONALIZED.
