"long list of reasons for opposing the efficient, safe transportation of oil to America."

Efficient - the extraction of tar sands uses millions of BTU's of natural gas. Yeah, really efficient.

It also uses millions of acre feet of water more than conventional oil extraction.

Safe - Apparently you are clueless about what happened in the Yellowstone River this summer ? ...

All the while we suck unconventional tar from Canada I bet you cretins will swear up and down peak oil theory is a myth. www.facepalm.org

We can create jobs by investing in new energy technologies now.

We as Americans need to cut consumption of oil. It can be done right now by simply trading in older vehicles for newer fuel efficient foreign and domestically produced hybrids.

Save gas money now. Save the environment starting right now. It is a Win Win situation that every American can do now.

We don't have to wait for government to do the right thing. They can barely do it now!

The answer to our country's economic doldrums is to reverse the price of gas. The consumers' disposable income has been reduced to critical levels. The pie can be sliced as many times as you want but if the pie doesn't get any larger we get hungrier and hungrier. The American people seem resistant to change and resistant to learn what they can do to coerce the political machine to take the global lead and say to the rest of the world "we are the true standard for independence".

We need to be self sufficient and self sustaining. We need to educate the rest of the world from our own back yard show them how to to keep the paint from chipping off the walls, how to soothe a crying baby, and how to keep the lights burning when our neighbors' go out.

Plentiful "back yard" petroleum will stop the climbing energy prices but it will not stop the greed of stock market speculators. That is a whole different saga.

after reading this i am so angered because I know this project will never come to fruition. The government could care less how hard it is to put gas in the car and food on our table. They are not affected by any of it.THIS project could help so many people.Obama he has done nothing to help create jobs since he has come to office and here this project sits.we the people need to do something to get our voice heard.

The fact that nothing has been done regarding the pipeline since 2008, is a pretty good indication that the government cares nothing about doing anything to better this country! The government staff make enough money so that they are not effected by high prices in gas, food etc. so why would they want to help us by approving the construction of the pipeline?

But I don't believe the government of the United States is really interested in saving the people of this country...only themselves and their jobs, money, status, raises etc. This sounds like a very good way to help the unemployment in this country and to some extent our feeling that our government caring about we the people!! This is a situation that could give us a boost and could take a while and produce money for consumers to spend and bring up our numbers in that area too, but will this government do it?? I don't see it happening due to the fact they really don't get...or want to get..how tough things really are in this country!! If they don't wake up and do something to help it will get much worse and the people will start making noise !! I don't want to see anything negative happen but people will only be pushed so long and then they push back. We have not had to see much of that in this country but it could happen. We should send letters to our representatives in the federal government to let them know how we feel about this!! I'm just sayin'!!

Congress nor Mr. Obama give a tinkers damn about the legal citizens of the United States of America. They care only about their own personal wealth. I don't recall Obama threatening congress. They would get their payday and vacation on the backs of the elderly, and our military. Lets fire them all and start over.

All of you environmentalist who are against drilling for oil and against the pipe line should try cutting your lights off and stay clear of the gas pumps.Just about everything made where we use in our homes has something to do with oil. There is enough oil that has not been taped here in the United States to last for years to come.sure we need alternative fuels like burning salt water,,but we have lagged so far behind in this field it will be years down the road in the making.AS i see it no mater what the out come there will always be a demand for oil.

Robert Turner of NC 11:19AM August 02, 2011

We need to open this and the drilling in the gulf and offshore with proper safety. We want the jobs!
