Bill Clinton and 'Addicted to Love,' Really?

Robert Sandy -- Yes, they played Beautiful Day for a few moments, and then switched to Addicted to Love. Really. I couldn't believe it.

I can't help but wonder: the Clintons were scheduled to be at Obama's acceptance speech the next day, and I didn't see them there. Did anyone? Could that have been a reaction to the insult of "Addicted to Love"?

They played "Beautiful Day" as he walked off, but it was immediately followed by "Addicted to Love." Was it my imagination or did they cut the song off right when the refrain was about to hit? As if someone noticed at the last minute the irony of it all.

They played a minute of a TERRIBLE version of "Beautiful Day" by U2 at the conclusion, but then went into a lengthy version of Addicted to Love. I noticed it and thought it was hilarious.

BTW, on Tuesday night, they played "Chain of Fools" after Tom Daschle's speech. That couldn't have been unintentional either.

I couldn't believe it when I heard Addicted to Love playing. At least they stopped the song right before the crucial line!

Thats funny, because when the Great G.W. Bush dressed up in his Halloween costume aboard a navy carrier and said, 'Mission Accomplished'..it won over alot of boneheads.

A few moths later, Iraq was knee deep in a civil war.

When he also urged the terrorists by saying, 'Bring it On', Al Qaeda opened up their Baghdad Headquarters thanks to this administration.

So platitudes from Clinton? I think not.

Real Leadership? Ya bet your Halloween suit.

Very ironic. The title of this Robert Palmer song has been parodied by more juvenile minds than perhaps any other. You can imagine. I can't imagine it was played without intent. Someone was pounding coffin nails.

Thats funny, because when I heard the line "People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power" I immediatly thought - 'catchy, but who is really won over but such a simplistic platitude'

The one line that summed up this convention was deliverred by one of the greatest American Presidents; William Jefferson Clinton.

Towards the end of his speech he said;

"People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power".

That's why this man won two terms despite the dirty dress scandal. He's the best.

I can confirm that the song Addicted to Love was played within a minute or two after Bill Clinton's speeach. I don't recall if it were played immediately following his speech or not. Found it hard to believe it was played.

If it helps any, a snippet of "Beautiful Day" was played briefly just as Bill was walking away from the podium and off the stage, but as soon as he was out of sight (and while the applause was still in full swing) they launched into "Addicted to Love" and played that for a lot longer than they should have. The full intro, the first verse, and most of the chorus (up to the point where they say, "You might as well face it, your ...") and then they cut off. Depending on whose broadcast you watched, there were several shots of confused looking Clinton admirers (including Hillary herself) appearing to notice the music and wondering if they were really hearing what they were hearing.
