Etch A Sketch Uproar Shows Media Bias Against Mitt Romney
Tweet Share on Facebook March 23, 2012 Comment (20)So let me get this right ... A Romney aide says that the nice thing about the fall campaign is that it's like an Etch A Sketch: "You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again." According to the New York Daily News, the stock price of the toy manufacturer hit a 30-year high for a one-day increase after former Sen. Rick Santorum brought the toy to campaign events, saying that he stands "firmly on the rocks of freedom, not on the sands of an Etch A Sketch." Then his spokeswoman handed out mini Etch A Sketches to reporters. Meanwhile, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich handed one to a child at a campaign event, saying, "You can now be a presidential candidate." I have to say that I'm with Rep. Ron Paul on this one, who released an ad called "Etch A Sketch" that makes fun of Santorum and Gingrich, asking, "Tired of games?" Paul's campaign chairman said Friday that Santorum and Gingrich are acting "like carnival barkers not the statesmen America sorely needs." I agree.

Why President Obama's Approval Ratings Are Going Down
Tweet Share on Facebook March 16, 2012 Comment (157)This week might well turn out to have been the turning point in the 2012 election. It started out with both the Washington Post/ABC News and the New York Times/CBS polls showing significant drops in the president's approval ratings. Both were statistically similar samples of Americans polled at about the same time—taken together, it's hard to say either one was a fluke—and both were taken after the Health and Human Services contraception ruling controversy. Why would the president's disapproval numbers be up? Some blame the rising price of gasoline; others say it's because unemployment continues to remain above 8 percent.

The Republican Party Must Win Back Women Voters
Tweet Share on Facebook March 12, 2012 Comment (16)The GOP is hemorrhaging the women's vote: a New York Times/CBS poll taken in mid-February showed that women now approve of the job President Obama is doing by a margin of 53 to 38 percent; in January, it was 48 to 46 percent. A Wall Street Journal/ NBC News poll this month shows that the president has opened an 18 point lead among women over former Gov. Mitt Romney. Unless the Republican leadership steps forward to turn things around quickly, it's going to get a whole lot worse. By "quickly," I mean now. This week.

Five Reasons Washington, D.C. Has the Happiest Single Women
Tweet Share on Facebook March 10, 2012 Comment (2)So Glamour magazine and Match.com have a new survey out showing that out of the top 10 metropolitan areas in the United States, single women are the happiest in Washington, D.C. According to Match.com's "chief scientific adviser," Washington women see a constant change in people coming and going with each new administration, and thus there is a "continually renewed source of men." (The fact that there is a chief scientific adviser implies that there are many scientific advisers at Match.com.)

With 'Slut' Rant, Rush Limbaugh Has Become GOP's Own Worst Enemy
Tweet Share on Facebook March 2, 2012 Comment (67)Somebody other than the Democrats needs to speak up about Rush Limbaugh, and it might as well be me. There's radio silence on the right—it's as if everyone's hoping if they ignore him he'll go away. Conservative leaders need to make it clear that he doesn't speak for the rest of us. His remarks this week attacking women were inexcusable.
