Obama’s Contraceptive 'Compromise' Doesn't Pass the Smell Test

Coverage won't be in the employer's policy offerring. The insurance company will have to offer coverage directly to the employee. It's in their interest to do so since the cost will be neutral in the long run. Whoever wrote this article refuses to look at the facts and WANTS the fight to keep going by spreading disinformation. Don't be sucked in by the liars. The Bishops aren't signing off yet because they want something else besides this issue...we'll have to wait to see what it is....

May be I should go to work for a Mormon institution, and suit them because they will not cover the cost of my coffee break; as they are opposed to caffeine, but I find it a tonic against free radicals --health prevention. May be I should go to work for a Jew hospital and suit them from not paying for my BLTs at lunch; as they are opposed to pork, but i find it tasty and good from my mental health. Oduma is a complete hypocrite and fool, and is a danger to the freedom and liberty of this nation. Impeach him now!

@Dennis: Uh, so your position is that people should only have sex the say five or so times in their life that they need to have their 2 kids and that's it? Good luck with that one...

Obama, by his actions, has risked losing the votes of women of child-bearing age who love to be lectured by doughy old men about sex. Doomed. Doomed, says.

The thing is...I don't like Obamacare per se...infact, I like the Sen. Ron Wyden and Rep Paul Ryan compromise that allows more choice. But I will never accept any religion or political party taking away my freedom under the cover of religious freedom....I'm an independent who was thinking about voting Republican because of national security....but then the Republicans reminded me why they were voted out in the first place....the same Republicans (and Democrats) who had no problem with insider trading in Congress or corporate giveaways, i.e. corporate welfare...but they are just so gung ho about freedom when it comes to removing choice from women because men who don't believe in sex and who run the Catholic Church, are more concerned with dictating what will or will not be covered in their employees' health plans. The Republican party has become the party of dictating religious choice to others. Isn't Rick Santorum the one who wants to prosecute doctors for abortion? And doesn't believe in contraception? How crazy is that?

I don't like Obama at all and would gladly vote for a reasonable choice....but this focus on birth control and abortion is downright repellant. Again, viagra is OK to be covered but not birth control? And this is about religious freedom? Give me a break.

I disagree. This is simply about providing the option of birth control to women who use. The great majority of Catholic women defy Church teachings on contraception and contraception prevents the cost of unwanted pregnancies, which would dwarf the cost of birth control. Obama is simply facing the reality of the modern world where women have a right to contraceptive coverage, no matter who they work for.

Churches are not in the business of giving people choices. They are in the business of telling people God's choices for their lives. If theology were the same as democracy, it would be redundant.

Dr. Robert Engle of CA 11:29PM February 12, 2012

Contraception and abortion have nothing to do with health care. The first prevents pregnancy and the other kills an innocent child. Preventing pregnancy should not cost a penny, simply quit spreading your legs. The cost of abortion should be the same cost of hemp noose.

Seems to me Obama's defeat is now a foregone conclusion.

So, it's a wide open POTUS election this year. Who do you want??

1) Romney

2) Santorum

3) Paul

...I believe Newt is already gone too!

PS: I like Santorum or Paul!

H. Gladding of PA 11:14PM February 12, 2012

C. Morales, er what? You seem to have the sides mixed up. Obama wants to let individuals choose whether they take the birth control pill or not. The church wants to take that choice away from their less well off employees and force their own decision on them.
