Obama’s Contraceptive 'Compromise' Doesn't Pass the Smell Test

Yes, a place of work is still an employer. All businesses have to follow the rules.

The idea that an employer can dictate health insurance coverage based on religious beliefs is fundamentally wrong. To carve out an exception for one church over another is fundamentally wrong. To carve out an exception for one business over another is fundamentally wrong. It gives preferential treatment to a particular religion/business. What if the employer is a Jehovah’s Witness? Can they now say they won’t cover blood transfusions? What if the employer is a conservative Muslim organization that believes that a women’s body cannot be viewed by anyone other than her husband? A religious exception is a bad idea.

I think it’s funny that the media jumped on and reported as fact, a policy that had not been set in stone. The Obama administration was circulating and negotiating the proposed rules.

It turns out that the media probably did the Obama administration a favor by jumping the gun. Obama expedited the negotiations and made it all public.

Obama shows America once again that he is a pragmatic and moderate leader who is fully capable of compromise. He didn't betray his administrations intention of making contraceptives available at no extra cost to all women, and he didn't require the Churches to do something against their morals.

Now can you imagine today's Republicans being so reasonable and compromising? I think not.

Women, Churches and Obama win. Cool.

buma says health plan not church pays all cost of pills. HOW STUPID.

Health plan adds up all the cost and what they expect cost will be in upcoming year. That's how they charge. Since church pays most of the cost of health insurance, THEY ARE paying FOR THE COST FOR birth control.

"I believe the president means all women"

Well yeah, You act like the president sat down and personally penned that himself. Weren't you a speech writer or something? You pretend like you don't know how it works.

"No matter where she works"

I'm guessing that means all places that women work, whats so hard here?

If anyone fails a smell test its you Miss Mark Kate Cary. You sound like a primary example of a person who is so pro partisan that any hint of compromise drives you nuts. I'm getting sick of religious fundamentalists thinking that just because Catholics don't see eye to with Obama over BC that were gonna join the madness that is represented by "value voting". Your not a Catholic so stop trying to stir us up.

Our religious leaders and Catholics in general have communicated our feelings with the president and he has signaled a willingness to work with us, this is the first round of talks and I have Faith that we (the Church) will be able to find a compromise solution with Obama.

Please take your Evangelical BS and your Bush era stupidity and crawl back under a News Corp rock.
