Tweet Share on Facebook August 26, 2011 Comment (23)It's been a bit of a crazy week here in Washington, and lost in the coverage between the earthquake and the approaching hurricane was the news that the Obama administration is cutting hundreds of regulations, in order to reduce the burdens on business and save up to $10 billion in taxpayer funds. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor immediately called the regulatory review "underwhelming."

Tweet Share on Facebook August 19, 2011 Comment (79)Last night on the nightly news, heart-breaking pictures of the Atlanta job fair sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus showed long lines of thousands of job seekers standing for hours in the heat, eager for a small chance at landing a paycheck, any paycheck. That video was followed immediately by shots of the president arriving on Martha's Vineyard for vacation yesterday afternoon. White House correspondents along for the ride reported from the scene with a harbor full of moored yachts bobbing in the background. Pretty much a PR nightmare.

Rick Perry Was the Big Winner in the Iowa Republican Debate

All the action is in Iowa—a Republican debate was held last night at Iowa State University, many of the candidates have taken a turn at the "soapbox" at the State Fair in Des Moines this week, and Saturday the Ames Straw Poll takes place. On Sunday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry speaks to the Lincoln Day Dinner in Waterloo, which Rep. Michele Bachmann just announced she'll be addressing as well. Sarah Palin is in the Hawkeye State in her bus, and the president's bus tour arrives on Tuesday as well.

Tweet Share on Facebook August 5, 2011 Comment (71)As the market closes on one of the worst weeks we've had in years—down more than 10 percent in the last two weeks, with at least $1 trillion in stock market wealth destroyed since the budget deal was reached—we also learned with Friday morning's jobless numbers that, according to Bloomberg, the share of the population holding a job fell to 58 percent, the lowest since July 1983. The headlines are screaming, the charts and graphs are horrible, and people are scared.
