Will and Kate's Royal Wedding Is a Proud Moment for Britain
Tweet Share on Facebook April 29, 2011 Comment (4)I think my colleague Robert Schlesinger got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. His grouchy 6 a.m. post slamming the “torturous buildup” and “absurd coverage” of the royal wedding was a little Bah Humbug-y. Maybe it’s a guy thing. All the women in our house were up at 5 a.m., drinking English breakfast tea and checking out the hats. (Did you see the one Victoria Beckham was wearing?) We loved The Dress, thought Harry was cuter than William, enjoyed the choir of men and boys, and thought the flower girls stole the show.

President Obama's Abuse of False 'False Choices'
Tweet Share on Facebook April 26, 2011 Comment (3)Yesterday E.J. Dionne wrote about President Obama’s use of a rhetorical device, the “false choice,” and agreed with me that the “false choice” idea can be easily misused. (I had spoken about it on an NPR interview with White House correspondent Ari Shapiro, from which Dionne had quoted.)

Forget Donald Trump, Here Are the GOP's 2012 Dream Candidates
Tweet Share on Facebook April 15, 2011 Comment (28)This week’s CNN poll shows Donald Trump tied for the lead among the GOP 2012 presidential contenders, along with Mike Huckabee. Trump and Huckabee came in at 19 percent, Sarah Palin at 12 percent, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich tied at 11 percent, followed by Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul in single digits. This poll says to me that many Republicans are still looking around, waiting for Superman to arrive.

5 Ways Donald Trump Can Kick His 2012 Presidential Bid Up a Notch
Tweet Share on Facebook April 8, 2011 Comment (4)Here in Washington, the local radio and TV stations are running “Countdown to the Shutdown” clocks today, with updates on the negotiations on the government shutdown, and how many minutes are left until tonight’s midnight deadline. You can’t get away from the hysterical saturation coverage aimed at all the federal workers.
So in an effort to get everyone’s minds off of all the political infighting, I thought I’d write about something much more entertaining: The Donald.

A Government Job Should Not Be a Mega Millions Jackpot
Tweet Share on Facebook April 1, 2011 Comment (14)I’d love to say this is an April Fools' joke, but it’s not. One of the guys from the office of New York State Homes and Community Renewal Agency—the office where the Albany 7 work—says he didn’t participate in buying the winning ticket for the Mega Millions jackpot because he didn’t have $2 in cash that day. Then he added, and I am not making this up, that he feels like he’s already won the lottery anyway because he has the next best thing: a government job. "I have a job with the state doing work I love,” Michael Kosko told the New York Post.
