Why Conservatives Who Skipped CPAC Over Gay Rights Erred

There reason that the social conservatives don't want a serious "buckley-style" debate on issue of same-sex marriage is because their argument boils down to "our interpretation of the Bible says that homosexuality is wrong".

Bottom line: they know that they are on the wrong side of history, science and freedom...again.

...and, as Adam puts it, if anyone doesn't agree, they are "fringe, out of touch, and bigoted"?!?!? Well, that's awfully flamboyant of you!

With that kind of pattern thinking, no wonder you've been labeled with the "Q" word!

Gary of WA

You have liberty to be with same sex. Constitution does not engulf all aspects of our life, such as this issue.

California, arguable the most liberal State, voted it down 2008. Please, none of this “misguided belief” stuff.

If Constitution gave right to same sex marriage you would quote it. Issue would long ago be settled in Federal Supreme Court.

States Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Washington, D.C., now have…

You are a bozo. Neither Party is against gays. But both are against same sex marriage. Including barry…

Bill Hedges of MO 12:39AM February 14, 2011

Neither party cares about liberty: they are more concerned with proscribing activities based upon a misguided belief in the universality of their current position of the day. There is no logical ground for denying the right of same-sex couples to marry, but that does not make those who oppose the concept somehow less than human. The few of you who read and understand the Constitution rather than simply parroting whatever a talking head tells you it says realize what a slippery slope those who want to restrict liberty are on. The Constitution is one of the greatest documents in human history but most of you have allowed your ignorance to be hijacked by one party or the other. Please do the country a favor and read it!

At this point, Republicans can be anti-gay at their own peril. The country has changed, and if they don't change with it, they will be seen as fringe, out of touch, and bigoted.

BTW, PFOX dude is a sad, self-hating man. I feel sorry for him.

Adam of DC 1:41AM February 13, 2011

Anti-gay marriage groups are all over in liberal settings-- where dissent is not suppressed. You might have noticed that until recently just about every national Dem politician was against marriage equality. Those in favor were a minority about the size as those against will be in a couple of years. Kudos to CPAC for (a) inviting debate rather than suppressing it and (b) not surrendering the future.

Maybe you haven't noticed, comments do not strictly adhere to articles.

I understand, in this case, you wish to. I don't. I see comments very condescending to my side. Like Cheryl of OH. I like to point out same sex marriage is disliked on both sides. barry has certainly harmed this cause in at least CA...

We did pretty good Nov 2.

According to CNN poll, obama would not get second term if election was held recently...

How likely would an anti-homosexual marriage group be welcomed at a liberal gathering? This is not the place for inclusion of liberal homosexual militant groups. CPAC is losing ground to folks who have no interest in social conservatism, and conservatism without morality is dead.

The Jimmy Z Show of CA 12:41AM February 13, 2011

Got "distorted mindset" from obama. Barry stopped same sex marriage from passing in CA simple by saying he was against. That "bigot"...

Bill Hedges of MO 11:50PM February 12, 2011

Seriously, "they risk looking, at best, out of touch and worse, intolerant"

Let's not try to fool ourselves, these social conservatives are definitely intolerant and loudly proclaim it to be so. There's no debating with the stubborn bigots. Wonder where these lunkheads got such a distorted mindset that directly conflicts with American values.
