GOP's $2.5 Trillion in Proposed Spending Cuts Are Commonsense

Besides the cuts above and long-term entitlement reform, isn't it about time to start down the road of eliminating whole departments or, at least, departments within departments?

Businesses shut down ineffective, corrupt or inefficient operations all the time but when was the last time the national government did it?

Of course, the lying left (Political wing - Dummycrats - Propaganda wing - press) always howls but it is time to move on anyway.

I do sense a growing number of people are waking up to the reality of what these folks have been doing to us.

Why would you want to leave in place a program that will eventually cost us 50% or more of our GDP? Better to remove that horrible piece of legislation and start over again with something that is fiscally sound.

One more military line item that could easily be cut is the $100 million a year in military bands. For show only, and really contributes nothing to our security.

Larry Leisure, two comments to make. First, Secretary Gates has already implemented a number of cuts to big, expensive programs and has put others on watch. The big problem with defense isn't the weapons programs. It's paying the soldiers, sailors and airmen, along with their healthcare costs. This part of the defense budget needs to be tackled, but it can't be cut to the point the Nation is crippled.

Second, Defense is roughly 15-20% of the total budget. So it makes a lot of sense that most of the cuts come from outside defense.

So why cut health care but leave lavishing defense spending untouched? This seems to me very lame.
