Republican Minorities Made Historic Gains in 2010 Elections

From Webster's Dictionary:

minority (noun): The smaller in number of two groups constituting a whole.

From the 2000 census:

White: 194,552,774

Hispanic or Latino: 35,305,818

Marco Rubio is Hispanic. As we plainly see from the numbers above, Hispanics are not the largest ethnic or racial group in the U. S., by a margin of over 5.5 to one. Being outnumbered 5-1 fits every factual, rational and logical definition of "minority." Therefore, in every literal sense, they (we) are a minority. Therefore, so is Marco Rubio.

Now where does this leave us, Maria? I had to deliver the same message before to permanently void someone else's ridiculous point, and now it's needed again. Countdown: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Get your facts straight!

One more thing: since when is being a minority a "privilege"? Sometimes, it's not. Slavery, Jim Crow and the Japanese detentions in America in WWII were fine examples of that. Somebody skipped too many days of high school history class.

Anybody else wish to step up to the plate with asinine, farcical arguments dredged from the sediments of ill-advised impulse? If so, be prepared for Smackdown III from this proud Bill Flores (R-TX) voter...

Do you hate us because Republican party came about to stand up for slaves in 1800‘s. That Rush was right that obama went liberal and must fail. A Europeans America we will not be.

Is it the minorities elected that are Republican upsetting you.. You like the misconception that we are racist.

You must face your loses. Rejection of liberals. I’ll save you the facts of life about civil rights for now, except to say we helped free, fighting hooded Democrats.

Now our minorities are not minority enough for you. Obama tells us to sit in the back of the bus…

How is Marco Rubio "non-white"? He looks pretty white to me.

How is it that white Hispanics get minority privileges, just because their European ancestors stopped over in South America for a few generations before coming here?

Marco Rubio represents a success story of which all Americans should be proud. I'm glad to see and agree with the author's point that the colorization of the Republican Party represents a decolorization of the American conservative voter's glasses. Let's give credit where credit is due: among others, to Abraham Lincoln (the Republican who freed the slaves), John Kennedy (whose anti-Communism, strong military defense and anti-tax fiscal policies would make him solidly a Republican today, since his party has veered so radically leftward), and the election of J. C. Watts to the House in the 1990s from Oklahoma (perhaps the most conservative state in America), which set the table for all of what we saw a few days ago.

Black and Hispanic Republicans aren't a novelty anymore; they are becoming a normalcy. Liberals: clean your bibs of the spittle of disdainful shock from somewhere high atop that ivory tower, and get used to this. The people have spoken.

>You guys act like he swam here from Cuba all by himself and then

>worked his way up from nothing to become a US Senator. Enough

>with the mytholgy [sic].

Meaningless hyperbole. Where on Earth has it ever been written that he swam from Cuba all by himself, etc.? Get your facts straight. And please learn how to spell.

Rogelio Esparza of TX 11:35AM November 06, 2010

Why is the media making such a big deal out of Rubio's life story? He's not the first Hispanic person from an impoverished background to win statewide office. And Cubans aren't all that impoverished. They get help from the federal government when they arrive here. You guys act like he swam here from Cuba all by himself and then worked his way up from nothing to become a US Senator. Enough with the mytholgy. He hasn't had it any harder than anybody else.

Perhaps a diverse House will help everyone see how much Americans are suffering...

Think about how hard people have it in congress: Boehner is slated to receive a $30,100 pay increase next year when he becomes Speaker of the House. His annual salary will be $223,500. The base pay for House and Senate lawmakers is $174,000, while majority and minority leaders each make $193,400 per year.

That's rough...
