Poverty and Unemployment Are Fueling Voter Anger

In past Democrats here said Bush tax cuts were only for the rich. That finally has stopped. For Bush’s cut applied to most. Friendly government to business and tax cuts spur private growth. Hand in hand with tax cuts MUST BE GOVERNMENT LESS SPRNDING. If you spend the extra income from tax cuts you spoil the effect.

At this point the liberal is saying cutting taxes reduces government revenue. Even though spend your way out of recession is philosophy of this administration. Liberals want government to spend the money to___redistribute___ to the poor. Whereas Republicans want people to spend the money creating private sector jobs. Called trickle down economics or otherwise known as create jobs, jobs, jobs.

Trickle down economics is considerate a dirty term I know by liberals. If government spends a $ trillion and gives to the poorest of us that helps them. While that money is being spent some temporary jobs are created until the money runs out. Then those jobs are gone and the poorest among us basically go back to the way they were. What we have accomplished was temporary help for poorest among us and a government DEBT. Temporary jobs vanish.

Now consider our way, the capitalist way. Still the envy of the world. Cuba recently fired 10% of government employees. Advised them to start their own businesses:

http://www.onpointradio.org/2010/09/cubas-new-challenges

Government jobs are expense on government revenue. Add unemployment cost, etc. Private jobs is a income for government. With more working and less government expense less taxes is possible.

Government job, concerning economy, is to facilitate, protect public, and foster jobs here in America not overseas.

Ok with all these good things going on in government as described, let’s talk tax cuts. This recession has throws many into horrible financial situation. As the recent census proves. Affect of recession hides Bush ‘s tax cuts benefit to most of us. Bush 's Presidency has been in pre-recession to recession since he entered office:

“CBO contridicts itself on Bush Tax Cuts“

“.Ok, short-term extension of the Bush tax cuts would boost GDP and cut unemployment but if they are extended for too long, it would wreak havoc. That makes no sense at all because if it grows the GDP and cuts unemployment, the government takes in more revenue. More people working=more taxes to collect.”

“Maybe if Obama and the Democrats didn’t go off on these record spending sprees, we wouldn’t have to worry about ending the Bush tax cuts to support their habit. Tax cuts don’t cause deficits. Spending money you don’t have does. Economics 101 in the world of Obamanomics wins every time.”

There you go. Trickle down economics…

Dick "deficits don't matter" Cheney would seem to contradict your claim about Republicans and deficits, as would the Bush-era spending spree so often complained about. (Of course, Obama's spending spree is supposed to be a GOOD thing now.)

So which is it? Do Republicans fret over deficits, or think they don't matter - or are you just parotting the liberal Whine of the Week?

What Are the Republicans Really Up To?

Too many people are getting hung up in the smoke and mirrors of the tax cut extension issue without looking at what the Republicans are really doing. They are watching the raccoon at the garbage can instead of the bear walking into the house.

The real Republican strategy re deficits and extension of Bush tax cuts consists of a mixed message that deficits are bad, Federal debt must be reduced, and the Bush-era tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 must be extended.

What the Republicans do not mention is that the Bush-era tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 were deliberately enacted in 2001 and 2003 by the Republicans to expire at the end of 2010. This enabled them to use the reconciliation process instead of identifying budget reductions to offset the reduced Federal tax revenues at the time the tax cuts were enacted.

The Republican leadership did propose savings; .i.e. offsetting budget reductions of $1.3 Trillion to extend the tax cuts for another ten years. A good start but it does not cover the estimated $3.1 Trillion Dollar cost of extending the tax cuts.

In addition, the Republicans have not submitted the proposed $1.3 Trillion Dollars of reductions to the independent Congressional Budget Office for analysis of the projected savings amount.

While various party leaders continue to espouse the “Deficits are Bad” and “Federal Debt must be Reduced” mantras, they continue failing to identify sufficient specific budget reductions necessary to offset the $3.1 Trillion Dollar cost of extending the tax cuts.

Again, the Republicans will use the reconciliation procedure, the same one they accused the Democrats of using in the health care bill, to enact a tax cut extension.

The Republicans fail to understand than many Independents and Democrats, as well as Tea Party advocates also agree that deficits are bad and that Federal debt must be reduced. The problem is failing to propose, discuss and quantify specific budget offsets to the electorate in something other than three-word or five-word sound byte comments.

It appears the real Republican goals are extending the Bush cuts and using the popularly unnamed “reduce entitlements” sound byte for the offsetting budget reductions. Of course, the Republican unspecified and non-quantified entitlements involve extending full Social Security retirement to age 70 and applying means testing to Social Security retirement and Medicare beneficiaries.

The Republicans blithely ignore the accumulated surplus American employer and employee payroll tax contributions of $2.5 Trillions Dollars (held as U.S. Treasury securities) to pay for Social Security benefits as their personal piggy bank rather than the Social Security Trust Fund (much like the Bernie Madoff school of fiscal integrity and prudence).

In closing, the Republican Party leadership goals are the reduction and elimination of the Social Security and Medicare programs.

Both Republicans and Democrats have let the American people down. Clinton made a huge mistake with NAFTA. I will always hold this against him. If I had to single one party out for screwing the American people, then it would be the Republicans. They consistently choose to support corporations at the detriment of the American people. NAFTA was created by a Republican congress to benefit companies.

Reagan and Bush II were huge hypocrites. They came into office saying they would cap spending then they ramped up defense spending like drunken harlots. In addition, Medicare Part D was a shameful give away to the pharmaceutical industry. There is no benefit to the American people of creating a law that says the elderly will pay retail for their prescriptions. Really, was this the best we could do?

I think congress has outlived its usefulness. I would be perfectly happy if once a week all Americans who cared to vote voted on issues on their smart phone or home computer. A simple majority would decide most issues. I think this would get the money out of congress, kill the hold of special interests and benefit some portion of our population.

Solutions are available, but wealthy corporatist fat-cats control the agenda by buying politicians and deliberately robbing the working class.

When a comment gets it exatly right, it bears repeating.

So in accordance with Boston Tea Party principles only the represented should be taxed. The best idea is to pay for the middle class tax cut by taxing all campaign contributions at a rate that reflects the damage they do. to the rest of us.

Tax the represented 10:10AM September 19, 2010

"Great proposals from back in the day"?? Supply-side (i.e., "voodoo") economics? That's what created this mess.

Tax the rich, end the wars, cut defense spending, end subsidies for oil, gas, & coal, provide Medicare for all citizens, penalize corporations which send American jobs offshore, invest in infrastructure, invest in alternative energy, etc. Solutions are available, but wealthy corporatist fat-cats control the agenda by buying politicians and deliberately robbing the working class.

The ultra-wealthy and their political lackeys had better review the history of the French revolution. When the People are utterly destitute, it will be time to eat the rich.

“The deepest recession in modern times has dramatically swelled the ranks of America's poor, with one in seven adults and one in five children living in poverty, the Census Bureau said Thursday”

http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_16096662?nclick_check=1

The best answer is government to help shake off the recession. There are programs already in place for helping the poor.

Feel free to do your part in charitable contributions.

Bill Hedges of MO 3:33AM September 19, 2010

Nobody in Congress or aspiring to be there seems to think there's anything wrong with 1 in 5 children or 1 in 7 adults living in poverty. If that was the case, they would have swallowed their idealistic pride to address the issue.

Maybe they should all take part in a two month experiment where they're tossed out of all their houses with a small suitcase of clothes and a maximum weekly allowance that is equal to the 1/52 of the maximum annual poverty level. This poverty experiment should be a piece of cake for them since they find it perfectly fine for 14% of their constituents to be relegated to destitution.

Bill Clinton pushed for DEAP WATER OIL DRILLING IN GULF by royalty roll backs, NAFTA, letting Wall Street companies be banks if they loaned more to unqualified home buyers. Lawyer obama and ACORN helped. What you refer to “Wall street has financed numerous bubbles (housing savings & loan) and they are working on putting the American worker out of business.” was Bill Clinton’s scheme.

Bill Hedges of MO 12:24AM September 19, 2010

As everyone knows, "nothing in life is free". Yet we have "free trade" brought to you by wall street and multinational corporations. Unfortunately for us their version of free trade involves outsourcing good paying jobs for the importation of trinkets. The American worker cannot compete with folks making $2.00 per day. We need to spend our dollars in the US supporting regional or national companies or we will continue to see massive erosion in the hourly wage. When I point this out to my fellow Americans they say they will continue to seek out and pay for the lowest priced goods at Wal-mart. This only funds the continued erosion of good paying jobs in America.

Everyday we vote for winners and losers with the dollars we spend. I never shop at Wal-mart because their business model is anti-American. They and other multinational corporations pay slave labor around the world and force many retailers they partner with to do the same. When manufacturing jobs are replaced with service jobs at Wal-mart and Burger King, how will folks afford to buy cars, homes and educate their kids?

I should not blame wall street alone. The federal government has been complicit in this exchange of jobs for trinkets (NAFTA). I think it's laughable that politicians are proposing innovation incentives for companies that have been outsourcing jobs. All companies will do is collect the money then move the jobs off shore. With the advances in technology that we have experienced recently, there is very little that greedy Chief Exploitation Officers (CEO) will not outsource. I have not heard any solutions from any politician on how to keep jobs here. In-fact, none have indicated that outsourcing is a problem. I believe that companies that outsource jobs should incur an outsource tax to be paid to unemployment for 20 years. It is a privilege to have access to the US consumer market. If companies do not want to pay the tax then they can peddle their wares somewhere else. People are quick to remind us that freedom is not free well ... trade is not free either.

There is no reason why the unemployment rate will fall below 10 percent in the future. There are no barriers to companies forcing Americans to compete with $2.00 a day wages in foreign countries and in time a greater variety of jobs will be outsourced. If nothing significant changes ( A pro-America trade policy), within 10 years the US will be a third world country.

Contrary to popular belief, what is good for wall street is not good for the citizens of the United States. Wall street has financed numerous bubbles (housing savings & loan) and they are working on putting the American worker out of business. Don't forget, wall street is all about greed and the procurement of money. There is no place for loyalty, justice, love of country, honesty, integrity, or accountability. They will sell us all down the river to get the next bonus.
