Obama's Oil Spill Hypocrisy--Where's the Outrage?

There is in the Bakken in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Canada, 8 times the oil that the Arabs have all put together. We don't use it and the wells are already drilled.

i never hought i would say this but hillary clinton was so right when she said obama was to inexperience and she was the one to answer the white house phone at 3 am for a national crisis and obama is proving her right. he talked a good game about afganistan but after putting in his own general it took him 7 months to react to what the generals told him. obama has never even mentioned the terrible memphis floods and now after saying he has been on the oil spill since day one and here it is day 35 and nothing has been done even after bobby jengle has been begging for help even today obama said fix the damn oil why cant he stand up and do something instead of trying for a new 165 billion stimulous bill for jobs.

According to some Cow-hoof-fornians-

If we, the US, only have 3 years reserves total available then why not let the oil companies develope it? Then either they would have to go under or relocate to survive. You math wizzes would then have it your way; no more big evil oil.

Just think - only 3 years

Obama is only offering permits in deep water, where high-cost, high-risk drilling operations would take place. He ultimately wants control of all industry and this industry has less chance to botch drilling in shallower areas; when BP or EXXON screws up next (I pray they don't) and the media and their zombies start asking "Where is government? We's can't do nothin' without government", Obama hopes he is still in office, laughing even harder.

That answers that question!

A hunderd years from nbow, though, it might be worth enough to pay off CA's deficit, though!

Here are the latest figures for proved, recoverable petroleum reserves in California’s coastal waters:

357,000,000 barrels (2008 , U.S. Energy Information Administration, eia.doe.gov).

Or put another way, enough to supply U.S. petroleum consumption needs for 18 days!

How much oil is left in the relatively shallow waters off of CA?

I ask as it makes me wonder what the limits are for high-angle drilling, and if it were possible, why isn't it being done?

I like to add a little perspective to these things.

During the first days of World War II anti-aircraft and heavy gun emplacements were embedded along our coastline. We did what we had to do for our national security.

These days, oil is a major part of our national security, and we have subjugated that security to big "E" , Environmentalism. There is a price for adhering to such dogma.

When I was a boy, oil wells lined the beaches of Southern California. The land that is now Marina Del Rey was an oozing, oily marshland - studded with oil wells. I'm sure that was the case for much of the nation's seashore.

Well, we've banned the oil wells from our beaches and wild lands, and for the sake of scenic ambiance we have pushed them ever further offshore - stretching the limits of our technology. What could have been easily dealt with in a 100 feet of water is nearly impossible in 5000 feet.

Now, under the Green banner, we have become a nation that can't compete industrially, and we can't generate enough power to maintain our civilization without importing energy. The very welfare and independence of our country is threatened by Global Warming/Environmentalist hysteria.

Reality comes knocking on the doors of all zealots - eventually.

Tom:

While hay and other absorbents can indeed be used to soak up oil, part of the problem may be a lack of hay available at this time of year - my understanding is that most in the US is grown during the summer months, harvested in the fall, and used as feed during the winter. If that is truly the case, there would be very little left at this time of year.

Personally, as an engineer, I'm appalled that BP and others have been allowed to operate in such deep waters without tested and proven emergency containment methods readily available on-shore. Operating at these depths is a serious engineering endeavor where screw-ups at even the slightest level can be costly and deadly.

Obama has had 14-15 months to at least start the turn-around of the mind-set of the MMS, yet we find now that absolutely nothing (any sort of bureau shake-up)was even started until this disaster, and to make matters even worse, the MMS continued to issue permits even after Obama declared a moratorium.

Obama is the big boy on the hot seat now, brought into power by a delusional desire that he would be the agent for "hope and change". Unfortunately, he has shown exactly what many of us saw from the very beginning - way out of his depth, unwilling (or unable by temperment) to do much much more than make speeches while letting everyone else do the dirty work.

Mud:

No, I didn't whine - I got pissed and voted for the opposition - some Dem, some Repub, but no incumbents. The same goes for many on the "conservative" side of the political equation, as well as even some on the other side.

The fact that you "didn't hear any gripes on the right" only shows that you weren't paying attention to anything other than what the Left wanted you to hear. You won't ever "figure out" "us guys" until you get a grip on your own one-sided tendencies.

Unlike too many like yourself, many of us actually hold BOTH sides accountable when they do wrong. Right now, it's the Left's turn to be held up to scrutiny since they are the ones holding the steering wheel - something that too many (and especially too much of the media) are not willing to do since it is "their guy" or "their side" that is screwing up.

Again I ask : Just what do the past transgressions of the Right have to do with the current transgressions of the Left in the context of this particular post?

Answer: Nothing, other than to prove that both sides are not pure and clean like you seem to think your side is.

When you start bitching about the Left even half as much as you do about the Right, your posts may actually become something other than something that make peoples eyes roll.
