Great article! Three Cheers and a glass of Merlot to you!

@ALKY you're gaining weight because you're drinking a large amount of wine. Too much of anything is bad for you. But your problem is mostly that it is white wine, which is sweeter aka more likely to cause you to gain weight. Don't blame the article, it's just you indulging too much.

Hello. I'm a wino (meaning I consume about a gallon of Riunite White Lambrusco a day).... and I'd like to know why - according to your article - am I gaining weight instead of maintaining or losing any of it?

I googled 'wine diet' and your article was number one.

The information content is great, but as a guy I was tickled pink by your wicked sense of humor! Delicious!

I saw on your profile you are a former White House speech writer. If only politicians could come across as so human too!

Thanks a lot, the article was really informative and brightened my evening!

I really enjoy a glass of wine whilst preparing dinner for my family of 9!. I was starting to feel incredibly guilty about it when I came upon your article. I now feel human again and know what you mean by "skip the desert but have another Chardy". Although my Kilos have started to creep on i would prefer to run another km and have a glass of wine than give it up and be skinny!

as others have commented, and as I have just personally found out, there are more risks than benefits associated with drinking more than one glass a day, especially for older women. Your chances of breast cancer go up by 20% for each glass of wine (or other alcoholic beverage) that you consume after the 1st 5 oz glass.

This was really a bummer for me to find out, since I really love wine and when you are sipping a good Chardonnay or Cabernet it is really hard not to have that second glass.

In reply to Maybe I agree with most of his comment.Over here in downunder [Australia] there is such a glut of wine that you can easily buy a reasonably good red or white for $6us.In plying your female partner, with those few extra glasses, it may reduce her inhibitions, however if you follow the pattern you may find that you may suffer from what we call in OZ "brewers droop"

All the best from downunder.
