Americans Have Moved Past ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ Pols Haven’t

I am an american and I have not moved past the don't ask, don't tell. Actually, alot of us have not and that makes the title of this article a lie.

My opinion: unless you have served in the services or currently serving, I don't think your opinion should matter, because you have no idea what it is like to be in certain situations. If the gay ban was lifted before I went into the service, I wouldn't have joined the military. In the service, you are put into situations where you would be very much uncomfortable, if you knew there was a gay person present.

Prediction: Since being gay is an abomination to God and if it does get allowed, we will start losing more people in combate. As a nation we will do worse than we already are, because of our sins.

In bible history, God's people had lost battles due to the sin of one person and we have several people sinning against God, even now. If He destroyed several cities or caused His people to be taken captive then and God does not change, He will do the same even today.

However, a majority of the american people will not agree with this and continue in their sin, but eventually, we all will stand before the judgement seat of Christ.

We are a nation that has lost it's value and we will pay the price, sooner or later, regardless if you believe in God or not.

You are only casting pearls befor swine with Tony of CA. The old addage is true: "A man compelled against his will is of the same opinion still."

Tony and his type, know quite well that Adam and Steve, being gay, cannot procreate and thus have no posterity. No posterity means an end to their poor genetic blue print.

I'm sure it's disappointing for gays. It all comes down to literally nothing! No wonder they are bitter! I mean, think about it, since the begining of time both parents of everyone's ancestors have had to survive disease, war, famine, plague, pestillence, hardship, natural disasters, accidents, etc and they all made untold sacrifice to ensure the success of their progenity. What are the odds the we are here simply because our ancestors managed to survive? A million to one? Two million to one?

Then, if that isn't enough, every person on earth had to win the lottery. There was only one in several millions of spermatazoa with your precise and exact genetic code that finished the race, won, and became life! What an astounding achievement. So, in that sense, we are all essentially lottery winners before we took our first breath!

And yet, sadly for some, the ultimate purpose and design of all this lineage, all this sacrifice, all the fortuitous events and sheer blind luck resulted in a posterity that decided Steve was better looking than Eve. And thus, the entire expended effort since time began was all for naught and abruptly ends. Truely sad. Truely tragic.

As your comments obviously include me, I'm happy to respond.

Where did I say anything about "hating" or "fearing" homosexuals? As I said, I have a few friends that are gay. I neither hate them nor fear them.

Your recollection of history concerning Black people is correct and those were terrible times and I certainly do not condone the hatred that was perpetrated on them. But being "black" is not a sexual lifestyle. Being homosexual is. Homosexuals are not a "race" of people. There are homosexuals in every people group on the planet. Does that make their lifestyle right or acceptable? No.

I'm not perfect and I certainly do not claim to be a "god." I'm just telling you, and anyone else reading these comments, that God, the Creator of heaven and earth, hates the sin of homosexuality, just as He hates the sins of lying, cheating, stealing, adultery, murder, backbiting, gossip, gambling, pride, lust, gluttony, idolatry, greed, sloth, pornography, alcoholism, drug addiction, and many others. I'm guilty of many of these sins myself in the past, but I have been saved by the Blood of the Lamb, the Perfect Sacrifice, Jesus Christ, the only name under heaven by which we must be saved. I'm just trying to convince readers that we are ALL sinners, and as such we MUST have a savior to keep us from receiving the just punishment for our sins, which is eternity in hell. People can be forgiven for their sin of homosexuality, but only if they are willing to give up that sin. Jesus said, "Repent and be baptised for the remission of sins." As I stated in my earlier comment, "repent" means to "turn away from." If you, or anyone else, choose to continue in a sin because you refuse to give it up, you accept the eternal consequences of that sin.

You obviously believe it is okay to allow people to continue in their homosexual perversions in this temporal world without understanding that they will reap what they are sowing in the eternal world to come. In other words, you are okay with them burning in hell for eternity for a short time of unnatural pleasure on earth. And you complain that I have no love for them??

Jesus commanded His believers to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength," and "to love your neighbor as yourself." If I'm letting my "neighbor" wallow in his or her sin without telling them about God's love and His commandments, I'm guilty of sin because I could have said something to that person that may have changed their mind for God. I'm guilty of this many times over.

Will there be homosexuals in heaven? NO! There will be people who USED to be homosexuals in heaven. Just as there will be people who USED to be murderers, thieves, and prostitutes, and USED to be every sin you can imagine, but they came to a saving faith in God (old covenant) or in Jesus Christ (new covenant) before they died, and stand in the presence of Almighty God.

I want to be in heaven, just as I want all to be.

You know, I seem to recall in my history classes that African Americans were relegated to second-class citizen status in the military too. Your arguments similarly reek of the historic fear, hatred, and vitriol surrounding racial integration in society & the armed forces.

And, the argument that you will throw back at me sounds something like this: “black people don’t have a choice---gay people do.”

OK, based on what solid evidence? The American Psychologists Association and the American Psychiatric Association do not classify being gay as an abnormal condition.

Gay people are just wired that way. If you still can’t accept the possibility that gay people are just “wired” that way then, you are playing (a very ignorant) god and condemning gay people as being sinners and abominations---you are basically asking gay people to deny the fiber of their being which effectively condemns them to a life of psychological distress. Your homophobia and marginalization of them contributes to their stress and hardships, which can, unfortunately, lead them down a spiraling path and very much explains their high incidence of drug use and suicide---congratulations for being such a loving, caring, and sharing Christian.---If *your* salvation relies on hating and fearing God’s creations like that, then I want no part of *your* god’s message. And let me ask you this: What if you are wrong in your judgment of gay people? Will you be able to justify all this fear and hate toward God’s creations when you ultimately die and meet your creator (even after reading this)? Are you *infallibly* and *unmistakably* certain that you are correct in your thinking? Are you sure? Have you or any other “righteous” Christians made mistakes before? Does your thinking grow and evolve over time? Has religion been wrong before?

Please get out a little and actually learn to appreciate the diverse world that God has given us. Your misplaced fear, vitriolic hatred, and ignorance really show and are really unbecoming of someone who actually professes faith in Christ and His principles. The true tragedy here is not the overt bigotry or hypocrisy; or even the awful effects of these attitudes and actions on other human beings; it is the failure of our society and education system to enlighten people and actually make them think that, they might currently be wrong in their thinking and they might not be so God-like after all. If you actually believe that you and/or other people are infallible in your thinking and beliefs, then you must be gods---unfortunately, by your beliefs, you are condemned because you just broke several commandments with you righteousness---but you know, we all get passes when it comes to interpreting the bible, right? (Like selectively interpreting and following Old Testament versus in Leviticus and then throwing out the others that are inconvenient, impractical, or absurd)

Tony of CA 6:33PM February 07, 2010

Hmmm… The weak “arguments” and blatant bigotry on the part of the “religious” here is so absurd as to be comedy. Ultimately, when gays and lesbians are given more rights and responsibilities(and they will), the dated and indefensible positions of the religious and “righteous” here will sound like the fear and loathing associated with the racial prejudice of the 50’s and 60’s. Their daughters and sons will be ashamed of them and it won’t really matter because they will be a withering shadow of their former selves and their children and grandchildren will just read about them in history books. I actually think this current blatant bigotry against homosexuals on the part of the “religious right” will come back to haunt them as more and more younger people feel alienated by out-of-step and archaic religious doctrine that appears completely out of touch with their personal beliefs, experiences, and understanding of other people---in other words, I argue that the “secularization” of American is actually accelerated thanks to the naïve intolerance of many religious institutions. Is this what God wanted? Sounds like the sheep are getting shooed away from the pastor rather than tended to.

Tony of CA 6:23PM February 07, 2010

God won't be judging our "love," He will be judging our sins.

The Bible tells us to "repent," which means to "turn away from" our sins. If you are engaged in active homosexuality and claim to be a Christian, you do not understand what the Bible says about God and choose to ignore what He says about homosexuality. Just as an adulterer who claims to be a Christian defiles his testimony by continuing in adultery, so does a homosexual who continues in homosexuality.

I was addicted to pornography for over 20 years and a foul-mouth, but by the grace of God thru my faith in Jesus Christ, He removed those from me and I am no longer controlled by them. The same should be true for everyone who claims to be a Christian. Jesus told the woman caught in adultery, "Go and sin no more." What is the point if we choose to wallow in the same sins we need saved from?

See all of Leviticus 20 and, especially, verse 13. Chapter 20 deals with carnal sins. Also, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

It is sad that homosexuals have such low self-esteem that they must force people to acknowledge and accept their lifestyle choice thru changing laws and accusing people of bigotry. Mr. Johan complained about Christians not allowing homosexuals to think for themselves. There is a double-standard there when homosexuals are trying to forcefully make everyone else think that their behavior choice is acceptable.

Jesus doesn't love you as a homosexual, he loves you as one of his human creations. Jesus will never love sin and sin cannot enter His presence. Read the Bible for what it actually says, not for what you want it to mean.

J.F. of NV 12:23PM February 05, 2010

I find it offensive that so many fellow Christians believe they speak for Jesus about "Natural Order". Seems to me as a Christian that the natural order Jesus spoke of is "Love". The day of Judgment might be different for you than you imagine. Don't tell me either that I am also suspect in Gods eyes, I know that Christ loves us all and I will follow that example.

Paolo Presta of AZ 8:57AM February 05, 2010

Are you saying I'm wrong about gays being "hidden," or are you saying I'm wrong that homosexuality goes against God's natural order?

I actually have a couple of friends that are gay. Does that mean I accept their perverted lifestyle? No. Does that mean they feel I'm misjudging them? They don't act that way even though they know I'm a Christian. In fact, one of them claims to be a Christian himself. I respect them as human beings and treat them as such, but that doesn't mean I must accept their deviant behavior that they, thankfully, don't display around me.

If it makes you feel better to call me a bigot, so be it, but that does not make it so. You seem to be bigoted toward Christians, but it's just because you don't (want to) understand us or Christianity itself, or you simply refuse to believe what God has to say about homosexuality. God has a plan for your life just as he does for all people, if only you (and they) will follow Him. If not, then be your own god and live your life as what makes you feel good. Jesus Christ, the Righteous Judge, will be the final arbiter for both of our lives, judging the intent of our hearts. My intent here is to see you saved from judgment, that only comes thru the blood of Jesus Christ. I wonder what your intent is?

J.F. of NV 10:45PM February 04, 2010
