Did you people read the same article I read? She didn't suggest he serve on the Jury while occupying the WH, but that he could have requested a postponement until after his term in office (as did Pres.Reagan) and the judge would more than likely have just flat out excused him. The point is that he could have used this platform to encourage Americans to do their civic duty (which is what I thought they were all about) and answer the call to serve.

Ma'am with all due respect I agree with the first response. You must be high, drunk, or both. I don't know enough about you to determine if you are right wing, or left wing, but it is painfully clear you are flying blind.

President Obama, whom happens to be the worst modern, if not over all, president in US history has far more pressing issues to deal with. Who really thinks that this out of touch, ego maniac can give his full attention to health care, global warming, running wall street, raising taxes, and screwing some guy out of his right to be judged by a jury of his peers. Not enough time in the day. When will he find time to blame George W. Bush for Haiti (yes people, George W. Bush caused the earthquake in Haiti. New Michael Moore film coming to a theater near you. Soundtrack by Kanye West).

Get real lady. At best you sound foolish and naive. At worst you sound like, in the words of Rahm “Rahmbo Dead Fish” Emanuel, like a f@@@ing retard.

After reading your article, I double checked the calendar, and it is not April 1st just yet. So clearly you were either drunk or high - or both - to have written such stupidity.

With all of the issues and problems facing the American people, I frankly would have questioned President Obama's judgement if he were to have sat through a trial while our brave men and women in uniform fight two wars and millions continue to lose jobs here at home. The President was very wise - and justified - to ask off of jury duty while President.

Once the president is out of office, then that is a very different matter indeed. But I do think that the man has enough on his plate to justify asking off of jury duty while he is office.

He cannot serve on a jury that is hearing a felony case. Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution states that the President "shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." He's part of the system of judicial oversight. Is would be a huge conflict of interest for him to sit on a jury.

I'm writing from Canada. Our system is a bit different here. Here, here, Obama would have been immediately excused, not because he's President, but because he's a lawyer. I had to fill out a questionnaire several months before I was called, and it clearly told me I would be excused if I belonged to one of several professions, of which "lawyer" was one.

How ridiculous...how much attention do you think the trial would get over the general public being able to be within touch distance of a president...and the cost of his security for the trial, the travel and the overnight stays. No, I don't think a President should be on jury duty, he should be deferred until later years when he is not president, and maybe not even then for the same reasons. I've been on jury duty and grand jury duty and found it interesting at times, boring at others and something that you should be able to write off somehow on your taxes for the income lost while you attend. I don't think anyone with any good sense would think any less of doing jury duty just because a president was called and didn't serve.

This suggestion is ridiculous. What nonsense!

I don't know what Illinois statutes say specifically, but I know that in many states, officers of the court (ie-lawyers, judges, cops) are prohibited from serving on juries.

There are plenty of people for jury duty, in fact I was called and went did my civic duty. What I noticed was what a bad system we have; almost every case was 'pleaded'. Which I learned later meant, you better take a plea agreement of one year or have a chance of having a jury or judge trail and go to jail for 10 years.

Many people in the Cook County do not have the money to 'try' their case properly. The state has investigators and many others to do the leg work for the states attorney. While defense attorney has none and most likely over worked.

Plead no contest which is the same as 'guilty' do your one year or two years, and then you're free... NO... You're a convicted felon which will live with though out your life.

Now if you have money it's a completely different case but than again if you’re young and don’t want your family know that you did sometime stupid, they'll say plea to a lesser charge and you'll go home today... Yes. You'll go home today a 'convicted felon'.

Back to jury duty, I did my civic duty and it was a waste of time. I found the only time jurors are used are in accidents to figure out how much money the other party should get!

We have plenty of people do these things, not a president that has a lot more important problems on his ‘Plate’...
