I have never had a greater gift. My books, floor to ceiling on3 walls, are collecting dust. lThe Kindle is marvelous. The only misgiving I have is not being able to thumb back to an earlier "page."

Runnning against the tide here - thanks for the recommendations. I have already downloaded several of your suggestions and will check the remainder soon.

I am a new Kindle user as of August09; and I have to say to Nick of WA that I am sorry he still chooses to live in the 19th century. Maybe he has not figured out yet that the upkeep of his libray is possible because of tax dollars - and since the economy has been heading for the toilet lately, lets see how long it takes for the local gov't to "cut" his free access to librarys.

Got with Kindle, or some other e-book reader. They are awesome to have with you - with a plethora of choices to read at your fingertips without having to tote a bookbag with you.

As I frequent speaker I love your selections. Many are on my bookshelf and I shall acquire a few of the others. I, too, love James Humes and chuckle over many of his quotations. I often quote Winston Churchill and Mark Twain when serious. On other occasions I quote Yogi Berra and Ronald Reagan. Shakespeare is usually a bit deep and I still have yet acquire the complete works. I try to embellish my quotations by researching the author.

As long as Libraries provide free books, I see no reason to purchase a "Kindle". The library always finds a copy of any title I'm interested in reading. Tech isn't everything and it certainly isn't cheap. If libraries develop a method of providing free downloads of their materials onto a "Kindle" or other such device, I might bite. Until then I'll let you all support Amazon.

but I deduce (yes, Luddites are able to reason - sometimes) that "Kindle" is some sort of pocket-puter which enables someone to read books from a tiny screen should they find that necessary.

I suppose the this puts a techy-twist on the "10 Best Books" thing. I'd hoped for so much more from you to close the year out. Oh well...

While I am disappointed - I will remain hopeful that you plumb deeper depths and examine weightier issues in the coming year.

Happy New Year
