The Obama-Bush Love In

It is a fact that Obama has lied repeatedly to promote his agenda, and has already broken many of his campaign promises. It is a fact that George H. W. Bush is known for only breaking one campaign promise, which he kept for two years before he broke. It is a fact that the Clinton administration trashed and looted the White House on the way out and neither Bush administration did this.

This is not 'shriek'ing; this is stating facts you wish to obscure. This is not "The game of "who started it first"", this is drawing a stark contrast in character between the leaders who represent the people of each party, and showing what we are willing to accept from our leadership.

One of these administrations is still in power. We must stop Obama, and challenge his administration not to trash the White House on the way out in 2013.

The George and Barbara Bush Family is one of the greatest American families which has ever lived in my opinion. Advocating volunteerism is just one good example.

Wonderful column Mary Kate. Even though the number of comments is small, it's noteworthy to see how several readers took the opportunity to do exactly the opposite of what column rightly commended: more civility rather than less, more quiet and reasoned conversation, rather than less. Instead, one commenter claims the moral high ground for the Republicans, the another claims it for the Democrats. One talks about being "the patriotic and smart one," and another shrieks about "Obama's lies." It's a mini-version of what we are treated to each day on cable.

Unfortunately, both of you exemplify what has gone wrong with Americas. The game of "who started it first" is one of kindgarden children. For once can we not focus on what binds together rather than sets us apart. President Bush Snr. was decent man who tried to do the right thing. President Obama strikes me as also someone who is trying to do the right thing. One may not agree with his methods, but he won the election and the people have spoken for the next four years. I rarely agree with Ann Coulter but she did say that an eagle needs both right and left wings to beat together to fly. For the sake of our children, let us set aside this petty bickering and demonizing and work on solving real problems.

Three cheers for Mary Kate Cary. Your column is always one of the most thoughtful and engaging. Please keep up the terrific work -- you've got a lot of people out here in the real world who appreciate what you do for US News.

You are only remembering the lies Democrats tell each other that no one else beleives. After we tune out Obama's lies, there's nothing else to listen to. So we just oppose everything he tries to do and wait for 2010 and 2012. We'll all be watching and laughing while Omama leads you lemmings over the cliff.

The Democrats have always shown the Republicans more civility than they have received from them. (Most recently, note the many attempts the brilliant, civilized and patriotic president, Barack Obama, has made to reach out to the Republican minority in congress and the senate in shaping legislation, only to be rudely and incivilly rebuffed by them.)

We should always remember how the George W. Bush administration trashed the constitution, the economy, the U.S. reputation in the world, the troops and the entire country, leaving them in far worse condition than they were in when William Jefferson Clinton handed them over. We should challenge the Republican party to act like adults and for the benefit of our country and world before we ever consider voting for them ever again.

Not so fast Mary Cate, These politicians are sharing the podium with different self serving motives.Bush's "Thousand Points of Light" was a means by which he could hand off to private citizens & faith based organizations the responsibilities that been the Federal or State governments to appease both longtime foes of Social Security & the critics within Republican ranks of his spending.President Obama's bonafides as an unabashed Big Governmemt/Spending liberal are not in question .However ,upon advice his Ant Farm Czars that are preparing the Brave New World for the millenials ,he wants as many Boomers entering retirement, that know he is a con man ,to die off as quickly as possible-with budgetary belt tightening as a smokes screen.Lastly, his posing as a Peace Maker , with the right camera angle ,will be seen as Republicans & Democrats working together in a spirit of Bi-partisanship.
