Obama Sends Wrong Message to Osama bin Laden With Slow Action on Pirates

Even though I am a conservative I have to say that I am appauled that anyone would find a reason to criticize the efforts of the Navy and Comander in Chief. This was a success no matter how you cut it. The term Willy Nilly has been poping up alot lately. Should the Navy and Obama gone in Willy Nilly? As far as a message to Osama Bin Laden, who cares what oppinion he has of our president? He already has made it clear that he hates all of us. He's a nut case and our enemy with no Navy or organized military support. I think our presence in Iraq and Afganistan is clear enough to him that he woke up the sleeping giant. If we blew up the ship, the captain could have been killed. This was a fast hostage crisis diversion than I can remember in my lifetime. We went into Iraq "willy nilly" to look for "potential" nukes. Now we have spent every ounce of money, time and precious lives our military has to convince the world it was a good plan. Now we have enemies with far more realistic, "potential" nukes. I don't think Osama bin Laden is the only threat we should be concerned about.

Apparently Russia and other countries that have been on the fence, leaning against us and are now coming around. What ever it takes at this point. Our aliances have been shattered and as a natural born citizen of the good old USA, I believe that if we aren't united, we will fall.

Although your article is extremely partisan, at least you had the guts not to take down my identification of you as a partisan. Don't say I never said anything nice about you. :)

SENA HALF A PLATON WITH EVERY SHIP OF IMPORTANCE !!!.

Orao.

I don't think the president was "indecisive" in the least. He has a fine analytical mind, listens to his best sources of information, and chooses the best course of action within his grasp. He is obviously a team player and not a grandstander. I am proud of him, proud of our military and proud of Captain Phillips. All were courageous, and yes all were lucky. It's nice to have a little luck thrown America's way once in awhile.

I am so tired of people running down Barack Obama. Personally, I think he is a wonderful president, and he is just warming up!

I'm sorry, but I have to speak a little truth to power here. I would say the biggest evidence of your bankruptcy as an intellect is that while you criticize the President's handling of the situation, you conveniently forgot to say how you would have done better. Oops! Guess little details like that get left out when you're just a partisan hatchet man or in your case hatchet woman.

I will just assume that you are a writer that desperately needs attention! This could possibly be the first time you have ever experienced a Commander-In-Chief who could and would issue clear and concise orders to defend real American interests. That has not happened since John Kennedy ordered the Cuban Missile Blockage. For now, we will just disregard your comments

So, your complaint is that after the last president hustled into Afganistan and Iraq and sent Osama Bin Laden the WRONG message that we were willing to let him run wild for 8 years, probably on a yacht off the coast of some place sunny, while we lost countless young American lives and decimated the future of and entire American generation for the WRONG reasons (WMD etc) and ushered in an era of debt that we will never escape, ensuring that our nation used up its financial resources and entered an era of damn near inescapable fiscal ruin, that this administration sent the wrong message by taking 3 days to discretely deploy our Seals to effectively and safely handle the situation?

That's your complaint? You think that Osama Bin Laden sat back in his arm chair, took a drag on his hookah and said, "that Barack's a slow one, why George would have thrown the kitchen sink at some starving refugees in Rawanda by now." Seriously, do you get paid for your opinion?

Chastine Schuller of NJ 6:20PM April 13, 2009

Thank you Mr. Armstrong. The actions spoke louder than words. Seems like there is always alot of finger pointing and blaming to go around, but this job was done THE RIGHT WAY!

I applaud how we handled it. In theory you expect our country to do everything right away, but we dont live in a microwave state of politics, they had their chance to surrender. They didnt do it.

We got our man out of harms way. If this would have went any other way, then there would be a ton of ridicule.

We used lethal force, we operated in a reasonable manner, and we saved an AMERICAN LIFE!

Republican Teddy Roosevelt got it right when he said "Speak softly and carry a big stick". Words mean nothing. Actions are what counts. The Navy was empowered to do the job by their Commander in Chief. No big press conferences to satisfy the 24 hours a day news cable cabal and their bloodlust, no bellicose BS shoveler masquerading as leadership to make the evening news. Just simple and effective action. I'll take simple and effective over loud mouthed imbeciles beating their chests like monkeys aka Republicans. The message Osama should get, stick your head up and we'll take you out too.

Robert Armstrong of CO 4:06PM April 13, 2009

OBAMA took swift action and should be commended. We took em out and brought back our guy! That is a message without saying a word. Obama made a statement, the US Made a statement, no one is going to threaten us even on a small scale or we will take their $$##* Head off!

Mary Cate you can hate, but Congrats to the men who were able to go in there and get some!
