Wall Street, the 2010 Elections, and Home Schooling

Villainizing Wall Street

How comforting to know that Anna Burger is one of the president’s advisers for economic recovery [“Policing Wall Street,” April 23]. Certainly, she is well qualified to identify Wall Street bankers as the sole cause of the recent financial crisis. It couldn’t possibly be the fault of absurdly low interest rates maintained by the Federal Reserve or the fact that Democrats in Congress failed to rein in the profligate practices of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. What a bunch of self-serving nonsense! “Wall Street is trying to buy Congress....” Probably because both the White House and the Democrats in that same Congress are already in the pocket of the labor unions. And poor union members were “pushed” into all kinds of risky financial deals because of Wall Street bankers, not because of their own personal greed. This administration is attempting to villainize another industry because, as we all know, only Obama knows what is best for citizens of this great land.

ALAN MILLER Sayville, N.Y.

To think that the pending legislation from this Congress and Executive Office will be meaningful is wishful thinking. Congress and the presidency are bought and paid for by big money, and no money is bigger than Wall Street. To wish otherwise is foolish. While Obama and Congress throw peanuts to the middle class in the form of tax credits, they are allowing Wall Street to continue without change, or more likely strengthening Wall Street’s position. And guess where the funds for political campaigns come from? I guess it would be expecting too much for them to bite the hand that feeds the entrenched and powerful.

Who Not to Vote For

The issue this fall is nothing less than whether or not America will right itself and remain viable or continue the current trend toward socialism and meritocracy [“Setting the Stage for the 2010 Vote,” April 30]. Obama is leading the country to the left and toward total government takeover of all major industries. I plan on voting for any candidate who has enough backbone to stand against this tide—Republican, Democrat, or independent. We need people who understand liberty and the preservation of the values that have allowed this country to be the envy of the world.

MICHAEL SHADE Houston

I plan on voting for no one, repeat no one, currently holding public office.

SANDY ALLEN Diamond City, Ark.

My mood is definitely different this year. I am trying for a clean slate. Politicians have forgotten they are public servants. I refuse to vote for a single incumbent on any level. In fact, I made up bumper stickers for the whole family at Christmas: “Re-elect NO ONE.”

Home Schooling’s Lessons

You say that in the effort to fund education, “there are few good options” [“Dodging Pink Slips for Teachers,” April 23]. Well, here’s one:  home schooling. The results are in after two decades of scrutiny. Home schooling produces better than average students, and now the first wave is also proving to be capable and responsible citizens. In addition, each K-12 home-schooled student saves taxpayers approximately $100,000, and you could consider it a downright patriotic thing to do. Best of all, after 16 years in the trenches, I think it’s fair to say that home schooling encourages parents, as well as children, to grow up.

As I had written in 12/6/09 concerning the competence of Eric Holder Attorney General chosen by Soc/Comm Barack Hussein Obama, that I and millions of Americans felt that Holder should not be occupying an important office that influences the Articles Of The Constitution that affects and protects the lives of millions of Americans. I wasn't surprised or thrown back, as to Holders embarressing answers and response when asked recently by a representative in a hearing, concerning the laws related to the borders of the United States and its neighbors. As he nervously studdered and mumbled about incoherently, and repeated the questions asked of him, he did not in any way reflect or answer in a professinal manner or give the impression of a man holding such an important position. He looked rather immature and unprepared, as challenging questions related to the disposition of minorities entering the U.S. borders illegally were being directed at him. The problem concerning the Arizona border and Mexico, and the influx of immigrants into the U.S. has not only affected Arizona but also California, New Mexico, Neveda and Texas. And as much as the representatives of these states for years have complained about the border problems, Washington continued to ignore the problem as if it was'nt their concern. And finally, after so many years of influx of immigrants, kidnappings, drugs being smuggled over the borders and shootouts between border patrols and coyotes, I guess the Governor of Arizona had finally had it! And because Washington had ignored the problem for so long and didn't want to get involved in resolving the problem, the Governor of Arizona took it upon herself to reinstate and activate a law written into the Constitution over 200 years ago to protect the American citizens and the borders of the United States from foreign invaders. As noted in the header of the Constitution: We The People to insure DOMESTIC Transquility .. Provide for the common DEFENCE .. and promote the general WELFARE of its citizens. And Article.I. Section 8. That CONGRESS SHALL PROVIDE for the commom Defence and general Welfare of the United States. And Article.IV. Section 4. That WASHINGTON GUARANTEES to each state to protect them against invasion. And .. Eric Holder wanted to hold the trials of Khalid Sheik Mohammed and the TERRORISTS that are being held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba .. in New York!!! What a joke! He could'nt even answer simple questions composed on ten sheets of paper regarding the borders and legal entry into the United States. And he thought that reading Miranda Rights and trying to prosecute Terrorists with thousands of sheets of evidence was going to be so easy!! Eric Holder is only one example of the INCOMPETENCE that exists in Washington today. He is a reflection of Barack Hussein Obama, the mistake made by millions of Americans that voted and trusted him, and are now worse off than before!!! VOTE OBAMA AND THE SOCIALISTS / COMMUNISTS OUT IN 2012!!!

BORN AMERICAN of CA 9:55PM May 16, 2010

There was a question in an article that asked. Should the American Flag Be Banned - In America? And in a box below the question was asked of the public to vote for a choice between schools banning the display of the American flag and the safety of students. The safety that the school administrators are concerned about does not necessarily mean the safety of the students per se of how they're behaving in the schools or how students are progressing in their studies, but they seem to be more concerned about the political repercussions that might occur between students of different cultures and ideologies. It seems that for the last 30 years or so, in our school system since the infiltration of the Socialists / Communists there are less assignments of history of American accomplishments and the history of thousands of Americans that have fought and died in foreign countries against tyranny and dictators, and at home, for the freedoms we currently enjoy. What about the history of the American flag and the patriots, and immigrants of many countries that died to make America what it is today? Of course Americans of the past like in the present had made mistakes, but show me one country that hasn't!! But at least the Americans of today are trying to overcome and resolve many cultural and political problems that still exist in the present. With the Soc/Comms manuevering our school systems and imposing their agenda upon our children, I'm not surprised that parents less than 40 years old and who at one time were children themselves of protestors against the system, were brainwashed by the rhetoric of their parents and of the Socialists and the Communists of the 1970's ... would agree to the banning of the American flag in public. First the Soc/Comms took away the glue that held the children to respect one another regardless of race or culture .. the morning PRAYER. Then they took away what had made children proud to be an American since the first day of its liberation from a foreign tyrant ... the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE to the American flag. Now the Soc/Comms ask politely in a round about way, if Americans wouldn't mind, if for the sake and safety of our children to avoid conflicts, to join together to ban the American flag from the schools throughout the United States. What IDIOT!!! would even suggest the removal of the American flag from our schools? Only a SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST!!! would. Now, it's the children of past protestors that are being affected by the Soc/Comm programs in our school systems since taking over 30 years ago. Since the taking over of the schools, many American students with the knudging of Soc/Comm teachers, like students of many communist countries, have also been mesmerized by the rhetoric of the SOC/COMMUNIST Barach Hussein Obama of TAKING from the wealthy, and giving back to the less fortunate .. have also been MANIPULATED to believe that even GOD dousn't exist.

At first I was not going to bother reading one more repetitive column but thought, ok, lets see....

I AM PROUD OF ALL OF YOU!

This is the first time, I have read a consistent message being expressed as a common thread in all three topics...Bless you all.

The message I got was that we are all tired of crooks, greed, mediocrity and low standards being the ok way to live!

Go America Go...with thoughts and actions expressed and then IMPLIMENTED it looks to me like we are all on our way back....

Let us all show the world what happens when America's Spirit and Goodness is awakened to action...

Good for you...
