Backlash, Violence Over Healthcare Reform

It's nonsense that Americans are angry about getting access to insurance when they get laid off, have pre-existing conditions, or have sick children who need healthcare ["Sarah Palin, Tea Party Leaders Must Condemn Healthcare Threats," usnews.com]. When you watch the videos of the tea party demonstrations in front of the Congress, there aren't even 500 people there. The news people are just trying to sell advertising when, in fact, the vast majority of us are now relieved to know we won't be wiped out if we become sick, or worse, sick and unemployed.

I hold people like Sarah Palin directly responsible for the ugly turn politics has taken. Democracy doesn't mean complete agreement and compliance, it means debate and being willingness to compromise. Right now the Republicans would rather stonewall or just take their marbles and go home, and the far-right people are being encouraged to riot, scream, and spit. Issuing a map with bull's-eye targets, urging people to "take back" their government, allowing continued racial slurs and other horrible behavior, constantly showing disrespect for our president and other members of the administration is reprehensible. People are angry because they may have lost their jobs, their homes, their investments, maybe their healthcare. Sarah Palin ought to be leading, instead of inciting, and so should all the other Republicans who so far show little inclination to listen to anyone at all.

People are responsible for their own behavior. People make threats against all politicians. It is all equally unacceptable. Condemning threats is giving more emphasis and publicity to the nut jobs out there. You can not make Sarah Palin or Barack Obama responsible for threats and vandalism carried out by someone else. The violent alone are responsible. I have learned that a leader can never make everyone happy, and there will always be criticism of leadership. As unfair as it seems to be, don't seek a position of power if you want a stress-free life. The media should do its job and not give the nut jobs a platform for fame. The vast majority of them intend to intimidate and gain notoriety. [The media] plays directly into their hands with this coverage.

I'm always concerned about Republicans when they try to get their viewpoint across without factual support. Because they're not doing a service, they're damaging the democratic ideal of an enlightened and informed base of citizens. It becomes a vicious cycle. The unreasonable mob hysteria feeds the political leaders and information passing back and forth results in more and more distortion of reality. We need a system that penalizes dishonesty in public statements and information intended for media dissemination. The situation we're in is only going to get worse and worse. Some kind of checks and balances have to be in place.

I guess fair democratic debate is only constitutional if you agree with a democrats point of view, otherwise you are "inciting", because I disagree with Washington policies does not make me a right wing nut job, I just don't like having things "rammed through" without careful deliberation of the facts.

It seems to me the Obamamnator was going to get this done and it did not matter what the downside was, as long as this reformation carried his name to placate his all encompassing ego.

Lord help us if there is any truth to any of his opposition, because as history will show, by the time we figure out how bad it is going to be it will be too late.

As I was watching the morning news on ch 205 this past Sat 4/3/10 there was an announcement of a slaughter of 25 Sunni civilians in a small village in Iraq. It was reported the civilians killed had sided with the allied troops and were assisting the soldiers through information in trying to liberate their village from the stronghold of Al Queda. Every commentator of the Fox News station that reported the attack stressed that witnesses said that the attackers were probably Al Queda terrorists dressed in Iraqian soldier uniforms and some though dressed like soldiers spoke broken english with heavy Iraqian accents. Not one witness of the village in any way said or implied there were foreigners (allied soldiers) involved in the attack on the civilians. Every reporter as I watched the news that morning and during the day followed protocal and the news outline of what they were to say. But to my disappointment one female reporter a Jamie (something) probably trying to adlib and improve her ratings as a media commentator said something that I felt was out of place and detrimental to the American image and dangerous for our troops, who are trying to help the civilians while trying to survive in a hostile environment. While none of the witnesses said anything about any foreign soldiers being involved in the massacre of the Sunni civilians, Jamie while on the air asked the news correspondant who was reporting from Iraq.. (If any American soldiers were involved?) WHAT!!! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!? No other reporters during the day or night of any media station to my knowledge, had made any reference to American soldiers being involved in what happened that day in the Sunni village. It is because of negative remarks like these and reporters like Jaime (something) that have no consideration as to the consequences of their questions and why America and its citizens are not respected by citizens of other countries and are always being verbally attacked throughout this planet, no matter how much we sacrifice ourselves in helping them in their time of need. Reporters and their editors who disregard facts and interject their opinion into witness statements and are more interested in selling the story should be held personally accountable for remarks that are detrimental to or affects the subject the story is directed towards. Are American reporters really WOLVES in sheep skins? Sometimes I wonder who controls the American media and the news. Are they really Americans who believe in Truth, Democracy and the American way of life or are they just Liberals who believe in controlling the masses with their ideas, innuendos and half truths. It has been proven down through the centuries that those that control the news many times have manipulated the truth and the outcome of events, to sale their fish wrappers. Don't believe everything you read or hear or what is being said about others in the media, follow the subjects carefully and make up your own mind!!!
