This [healthcare bill] will be the largest deficit-cutting program in decades and one of the biggest tax cuts for middle-class Americans in a long time, but a major defeat for Republican obstructionism.

Unless one has lived in, what most of us Americans would call, a socialist country for more than 5 years then I'm not sure we are qualified to say the health care systems are worse there. Take a visit to one of those horrible socialist countries like England, Denmark, Sweden, or Germany and listen.

As for government run services being ineffective take a look at big industry in America. Sure some turn a profit but at what cost. No matter what name you put on out-sourcing these companies are increasingly less effective per employee, slower in reacting to market change, and often less creative than the challengers. Protecting market share is tough business but should not handicap your business. Government agencies don't have this problem and if incentives are put in place to manage their effectiveness appropriately the "(broke)" which you refer to can be resolved since their principle is to serve, not to turn a profit. What is broke is US management culture.
