Thanks Mike from TX, I thought nobody would set these commenter’s straight.

A few other points is that the USPS is obligated to deliver to all addresses where as those other private companies do not.

Healthcare Plan is not paid 100%.

It is my opinion that E-mail spam is a far greater security risk than receiving advertised mail, as Identity fraud is a fastest-growing crime in America, with millions of victims and losses in the billions of dollars caused most often by phishing taken place via email or instant message, or over the phone.

I was appalled with the incorrect statements made and especially about the health insurance. We have NEVER had free health insurance. Each year, the premiums have gone up for us just like others companies insurance premiums. I know I switched from Standard to Basic with Blue Cross & Blue Shield because I couldn't afford the increase. This was a hard choice for me and to see this written about "falsely" makes my blood boil!

Get your facts straight before you look like an idiot.

Mike in TX, where do I begin....

1) Did you know that the Postal Service has been self sufficent(that means NO tax dollars) since 1978? I bet that was before you were born.

2) Did you know the 10,000 smallest Post Offices only represent Six tenths of one percent of the Postal Services operational budget costs? (That's .6 of 1 %.) How about YOU or anyone agreeing to six tenth's of one percent a year raise as fair????

3) How about the fact that the Office of Inspector General

(look it up at http://www.uspsoig.gov/stories/CSRS--Full%20web%20story.pdf) shows that the USPS has over paid the US treasury $75 BILLION since 1972. And continues to be obligated to pay $5 billion a year.....hmmm Postal Service loosing money at rate of about $4 billion a year....duh, are you wondering why...really.

Oh yeah and closing one day a week will save money. Gee...why not close 3 or 4, then the USPS will be making a HUGH profit. Really.....where did you go to business school....Beverly Hillbillys University???

Let's see some actual documented FACTS related to your "opinions". Otherwise it just becomes the old analogy of "Opinions are like belly buttons(for lack of a more appropriate term): Everyones got one.

I too am a Postmaster in a small community and I dare any of those writers to come here and tell my customers that their office is not necessary.

My customers are for the most part elderly and it is nothing for me to call when they haven't come in for their mail. I have also gone to their homes during my lunch or after work when I have received no answer on the phone. For some we are their only link to the outside world.

When was the last time any of them bought bread or milk for a member of their community who couldn't afford it because it wasn't the third yet or they couldn't get out? When have they brought trays of homemade cookies during the holidays as a way of saying thank you for your business. I have done all of this and more.

Post Offices are vital and necessary to small communities. We know all our customers and they know and trust us. I resent the fact that people believe our communities would be better served by a kiosk in malls or stores. Please give some thought to this BEFORE you decide that we are not necessary.

To all my fellow postal workers.....Keep up the good work!!!!

Once again!!!! The ignorance on this matter infuriates me to no end. The need of a Postmaster or Manager. I have been a Postmaster for 22 years I have ran smalle offices, medium size offices and I have done alot of details for the District and I use to take pride in that. But now the Postmasters get treated worst than a dirty wet manegy dog from all sides, headquarter, district, mpoo, carriers, clerks and even customers. The Postmaster is responsible for everything in their office even if our employees don't want to do what they should do and if they got mad all they have to do is call their Unions. Oh sure the Postmasters have Unions but they can't really fight for our rights. I use to belong to both unions (for seventeen years) but when they let that NPA program go through I took that money I was paying each month and considered it to be by raise. Did you know that every sheet of paper we use even toilet paper is used against us Postmasters in getting a raise. Just think, each time you wipe your wiping my raise, each time you don't upsell it don't go against you it goes against the Postmaster. We get threaten all the time that if we don't scan correct, if we don't have our carrier back, if we don't contact so and so by a certain time, if we don't fill out the manatory books and sheets everyday, if we don't make our budget, if we don't make our revenue, if we don't, if we don't, if we don't that will make us report to so and so and guest what I don't have anybody to complain too.Did you know that in some cases that clerks are only making 6 cents less and hour than their Postmaster and they don't have the responsibility. So count your blessings that your not a Postmaster. In fact it sounds like you might be a clerk. The one thing I have learnt in life is that everyone should work in someone elses shoes before they complain. Come on chicken s--- become a Postmaster. Then let me know what you think. I already done all the other jobs. So I can tell you you better stay where your at.

I also work for USPS and love my job. Do you people not realize what you are saying? You only need your mail every other day and that is fine with you. Well, what if I said you needed to cut your work week and pay check from 40 hours a week to only 24 hours a week?? Are you going to be able to keep food on the table and a roof over your head?? But I guess since it's easier just to sit in front of the computer and push a few button than it is to get out a pen and use minimal writing skills to fill out a check and walk the ten steps out your door to the mail box, my family should suffer with only 24 hour of pay a week.

Not to mention, I am the sole employee in a Post Office that is in a community located 9 miles from the nearest gas station, grocery store, or another Post Office. Most of the people don't have computers so they don't pay their bills online. And many of my 130 box renters get their medication by mail because the nearest Pharmacy is 26 miles in any direction. When you are sick or need meds to control your blood pressure or blood sugar can you wait for the mail to come every other day?

Amen. As pointed out in previous posts, some of the writers do not have their facts straight, especially USPS using tax dollars or employees get health care paid for (both false). Please realize that you are voicing your opinion and don't try to write something as fact. Until you work for the Postal Service you probably have no idea what we actually do. I've worked as a clerk, carrier, supervisor and postmaster. In those positions I've worked flexible hours (mail is processed 24 hours, 365 days a week), worked lots of holidays, most weekends, during blizzards and 100+ degree days. I've also seen many people start a job with the Postal Service, then decide it was too hard or they didn't want to work weekends or nights or early in the morning or in the freezing cold, etc. It's easy to bash someone else's job when you've never done it. It's also easy to offer "simple" solutions when you have no clue what laws, regulations, etc. govern a business. You are welcome to your opinions but please make sure you point out that they are opinions and not facts.
