My husband and I have four children and have lived in our home for 17 years. We recently purchased a bigger house in Oct.2009. Everyone keeps asking if we are going to get the tax credit for our house....unfortunatley the answer is no. I am happy for all those who will qualify for this awesome credit, I just wish we were able to take part as well. We missed the cut off date by one month. Had we known, we would have put off the closing as long as possible in order to qualify. What about all the hard working people who are buying houses during the other 10 months of 2009? It really is a shame that the gov. is forgetting about those purchases.

To those who are all complaining about not having enough time to "find a house" and that you have to choose something that you don't really want, just be thankful you are even getting a house and getting an opportunity like this that only comes once in a lifetime. You wouldn't even be house hunting right now if if weren't for this program. You should be happy and overjoyed, if not then just continue to rent where you are. When someone gives you a "an inch" you don't have to try to take a mile. In this past year, I have gotten a job at a local hospital as a medical transcriptionist and I am so happy that I gladly write out my rent check because I actually have the money to pay for it and don't have to choose between that and food. I knew this housing tax credit existed but I have bad credit and did not even worry about it. However, a house just came up in our local newspaper that I may just have a chance at because only people like me could qualify for it. Even if I don't get this house, I am grateful to Obama for all the things hes has done for us as American Citizens.

Well, I guess an extension would give people more time to find the best situation for them. Getting that first house is kindof a daunting task. I've been using a booklet I got online at http://www.firsthomeexperience.com/main/ to help me understand all the steps involved. Don't know if it might help you with your house hunting.

they dont need one i cant tell you how many times someone with a family wanted to buy a house to live in only to be outbid by an investor who only wants to make money off if it. I think they should not be able to bid on a house for the first 90 days

I wish they would also offer a tax credit to investors with money to spend. (I am not one of them) An investor won't buy the junk houses out there because they get nailed on down payment, points and closing costs. Give them a reason to spend their money. Promise they won't leap into a higher tax bracket for that particular tax year... If those that have the money to spend have an incentive they will also be contributing to the labor force by hiring people to fix up the inhabitable homes, retail and home improvement for the materials and so on....... Give them a reason not to hoard their money. The economic domino effect will become very evident.
