The only things I would add to the comment made by one of the finest teachers I've ever know, Dr. Horacek, is to tear down the glass ceiling for good teacher's pay and to remove the incentives and protections afforded bad teachers.

I was never A good speller. You people helped me a lot, I speak of the Internet. I only do emails and blogs and when I blog I use a word processor and cut and paste so I can take advantage of spell check

Blogs have spell check but they do not always work.

My spelling has improved with spell check because those squiggly lines always annoyed me so I payed more attention to my spelling.

Calculators on the other-hand I find its best to learn the math then learn the calculator so you have a idea of what a wrong answer looks like and you can catch your mistakes.

Technology can further your education but the basics have to come from someone who cares, Which is where our education sometimes fail the student. I suggest online video chats if possible or at least live chat with instructors or even student tutors that care. You teach you learn you learn you teach its all the same to those who desire to learn what life has to offer.

The main task of teachers is to understand how students think, and build from there based upon the principles of the course and the logic. This cannot be done with class size greater than 100. See "Teaching and Helping Students Think and Do Better" on amazon.
