if the male had of been white I think the officer still would have arested him for causing a distrubance...

The talk is all about the black race, how bad they are treated.. but if this had of happened to a white male/female by a black police officer the attention would have lasted a half hr in the news.... I'm for all people regardless of colour etc... if you want to discuss race then talk about all not just blacks... I have seen how blacks think because of this issue ..they have the right to treat people like garbage ,then call it racial profiling when someone does something about it. If a white person had done the same they would have been arrested... this has gone on long enough...the health care issue should be the top priority for Americans right now ...

Well to all those that are on Gates side... Remember when a robery happens at your home and the police show up and catch the guy or gall. Then just ask them if they live there and they say yes and don't ask for proof and walk away. That you are the ones at fault cause of this issue and all your stuff is now gone from the one that robbed you. And also remember Disorderly conduct is a crime. Almost every state in the United States has a disorderly conduct law that makes it a crime to be drunk in public, to "disturb the peace", or to loiter in certain areas. Many types of unruly conduct may fit the definition of disorderly conduct, as such statutes are often used as "catch-all" crimes. Police may use a disorderly conduct charge to keep the peace when people are behaving in a disruptive manner to themselves or others, but present no serious public danger, but present no serious public danger. Disorderly conduct is typically classified as a misdemeanor.

Racism didn't exsist in biblical times. Racism is a modern notion. There was discrimination based on tribe or nation but not skin color so lets get it straight. Racism became prominent in the modern era especially with our nation. That is why it is so prevelant in our nation today. Other nations will discriminate based on nationality or sex way more frequantly than race. And yes I have had first hand experience of this living overseas. Overseas its not about your color it is about your nationality or where you are from. So whoever posted that Racism exsisted in biblical days is not correct. Just go to www.pbs.org/race and read for yourself. Race is a modern social construct. And it is my personal opinion there isn't a such thing as race. You can't group people based on color!!! There isn't a color gene people!!! When are we as Americans going to figure that out. I have an idea how bout we group people based on eye color. Sounds silly right. Racism is no different silly and very ignorant. So here is a bit of important information we are all the same genetically with about 5% variation in genes.

What are the charges being beligerant to a cop. That isn't going to fly in court. The charge disturbance of the peace will not fly either. So your saying this cop was right arresting this guy. I am telling you he was not. If I knew I didn't have a case on a guy I don't care how many names he has called me I would not have arrested him. Why? Because there are not any charges how hard is that to understand. In this case there is no wife so where are you coming up with that? If there were a lady there and there was an argument that led to a someone physically getting hurt then you could arrest for domestic violence. In IL you have to arrest someone if there are signs of physical hurt. But if there is just a verbal argument would I arrest the guy even if he called me every name in the book no I would not. If you have two people arguing and you arrive onscene as a cop r u going to arrest them. No even if they are calling each other every name in the book and one or both start cursing at you. I would ask them to seperate but I still don't have grounds for arrest. I would be more forgiving of this cop if there were another party involved and there was a dispute or something but arresting a guy because you get called a bunch of names that is not right. You arrest based on a charge. And as a cop u ask do I have enough evidence to get a charge on the person. In this case there is nothing but some curse words and mother berating.

Racism has been around for thousands of years. You can read it in the Bible with the different tribes.

Having a label as color is wrong, I am not purple. I am of a race and every race has good and bad people.

The woman who called 911 was asked if the suspects were black, white, or etc. She did not know and said so. Yet she is white and people has been calling her names, because she is white.

Sgt. Crowley was doing his job. He puts his life on the line everyday to protect all races. The police of all races deserves respects and spoke to with respect. Professor Gates did not step back to think the police was there to protect his property. Maybe Professor Gates would have thought of this if it was a black Sgt. Crowley and would have appreciated a black Sgt. Crowley checking on his home.

Today there are many gangs with all races, and the police have to deal with these gangs. Yet just by the way they look you know that is a rough crowd, today well dressed people are killers and do terrible things to our children. They live in our neighborhoods, we ride on the bus with then, and they may be our friend.

Professor Gate is well known, so is ex-president Clintin and other political figures who had their closet door opened. Otherwise it does not make any difference of how well a person is known, they are human just like everyone else.

President Obama had his button pushed by Professor Gate and President Obama trusted Professor Gates. Well, President Obama did not look on both sides of the street and he fell right into the pot where Professor Gate wanted him. In my opinion Professor Gate did not respect our President and he is not a friend that can be trusted. Why? A friend would not involve a friend, especially if he was the President of the United States.

Black people may be arrested more than whites. The reason is low income and the area they live in. They are not the ones who are poor and live in bad neighborhoods. Whites and latins have been arrest too. The children and families need more education to come out of that environment and leave the attitude behind. And, President Obama is working on this and I think it is great.

I voted for Obama and I trust him to do what is right for the people. The problem he has to deal with other politicians who could care less about the little people as long as we work to pay what they want.

There will always be racism until America stands up as one nation under God. Which is G ood O rderly D irection that covers all beliefs and is GOD.

This one's for you v, since you seem to have some experience in the matter. Let's say you investigate a break-in, approach the suspect, are presented ID matching the current address, apologize, and leave.

If, subsequent to your departure, the man you just interviewed kills his estranged wife that was restrained on the second floor, do you feel that "he showed me his ID" will be a suitable defense to justify your hideous bit of policing?

The guy never should have been arrested. As a former Police Officer I would have not arrested him. Especially after I learned it was indeed his own home. What charge is there to arrest him. Disorderly conduct deals with disturbing the peace of fellow citizens not yelling at a cop on your own property. How would you feel your at home trying to get into your own home and your questioned by a cop on your own property. In this case the guy gets arrest and he is 58 years old!!! Come on people put color aside, this is ridiculous. Again what are the charges here. There are none that is why the case was dropped and there should be an apology. I have been called every name in the book and I never arrested a single individual because they called me a name. They are arrested for breaking the law. What law was broken here? None!!!!! And there lies the problem. Why arrest a 58 year old man even if he is a jerk to you. As a cop your supposed to be above that you enforce laws not make citizens feel subservent or put them in their place. And that is why he was arrested. We all know this to be true people just don't want to admit it. Look at the stats they don't lie. Two thirds of African-Americans fear they are stopped because of their race. People the stats don't lie.... The fact is they are stopped for that reason and for anyone to claim otherwise is living in a dream world.
