Sportsmanship, Handshakes, and LeBron James
Tweet Share on Facebook June 4, 2009 Comment (31)In my humble opinion, not shaking or giving congratulations does not make LeBron James a poor sport ["NBA Star LeBron James Is a Bad Sport--Let's Shake on That," usnews.com]. If you ever played the sport of basketball or any sport, there are times that this happens, and it is not unusual. It does confirm his competitive nature. As much as the media and those who live their lives off the scrutinizing of athletes must understand, athletes are human, and being such, have the right to express themselves in any manner they wish within the law. I'm sure LeBron will acknowledge the Orlando's Magic success in the near future.

In my opinion it's all about class and how you handle yourself. LeBron has quite the ego (can you really blame him after watching the way ESPN and all other sports media kiss his feet?). Let's be honest, the Magic dominated the Cavs in game 6 and he was embarrassed ... his ego was bruised and he handled it poorly.

Obama and Reagan
Tweet Share on Facebook June 4, 2009 Comment (5)The current president has not been in office one year yet and has not been in politics 1/10th of the time Ronald Reagan had under his belt. You can't begin to compare the two.

A Reality Check for Jon & Kate and Nadya Suleman
Tweet Share on Facebook June 4, 2009 Comment (9)Since when does it take millions to raise a large family ["Nadya Suleman, Jon & Kate: Making Money on TV," usnews.com]? If Jon went back to work in IT (which he seems to want to do) and Kate went back to nursing, they could live comfortably. Would they be lavished with a million dollar home, free trips, and other generous perks? No, but so goes real life. Jon and Kate are suffering from greed. As for octomom, she's got a few screws loose. No one in their right mind would go in for IVF when they already had 6 children, were unmarried, and unemployed.
Comment by Angela of MD
Both TLC and the Gosselins are equally complicit in the exploitation issue. Rather than do what is morally right, putting the children's best interests first, both choose greed. From all reports, the Gosselins have made more than enough money to live comfortably for a very long time. It appears that Jon wishes to withdraw from the show, but Kate wants to continue for her own selfish reasons. It is no longer about the children. As for TLC, I have lost all respect for them. The recent statements put out by their spokesperson were blatant lies. Anyone who has watched this show would know that they cannot possibly film 40 episodes in a six-month period by filming only four hours a week. I am ecstatic that Pennsylvania's Department of Labor has launched an investigation into the working conditions for these children. TLC and the Gosselin parents should be ashamed of themselves!

Dick Cheney for President in 2012
Tweet Share on Facebook June 3, 2009 Comment (14)Cheney would make a great candidate for president: his strong conservative values on the economy and on social issues like abortion would definitely help him win over Republicans and his view on states deciding on gay marriage would help broaden his support across the entire nation.

Is There Room for Moderates in the GOP?
Tweet Share on Facebook June 3, 2009 Comment (3)It's long past time for Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to leave the GOP ["Two Republican Moderates in Senate Worry About Future of GOP," usnews.com]. I jumped for joy when Arlen Specter left. We don't need RINOs like Collins, Snowe, or Colin Powell. They should join the independents or the Democrats. We need "real" Republicans. Snowe and Collins cannot leave soon enough for me. I agree with Senator DeMint that he would rather have 30 solid Republicans than 41 wishy-washy ones. Amen to that.

Tiller's Murder and Abortion
Tweet Share on Facebook June 2, 2009 Comment (4)I take exception to the fundamental premise that Tiller's murder was "as wrong" as abortion. It was much more wrong. Abortion is legal. Murder is illegal.

The Obama Date Night Backlash
Tweet Share on Facebook June 2, 2009 Comment (32)How else is Obama supposed to get to New York [Republicans Grumble as Obamas Jet to New York and Taxpayers Pick Up Tab, usnews.com]? He has to take whatever transportation the Secret Service tells him to! And I'm sure he paid for dinner and the show himself, every other time the Obamas have "date night" he pays! I think it's inspiring to see a happily married couple in the White House. I have never seen a president enjoy his family more than Obama, and we should all see their "date nights" as an example of one way to maintain a healthy marriage. The first family has (and practices) better family values than any Republican I can think of.
Comment by Jasmine of NJ
Every president has what is literally a second White House. Reagan and Bush #43 had their ranches, Bush #41 had Kennebunkport, Maine. They can spend time there and still fully function as president. Presidents are actually expected to designate such a site, and I don't have a problem with that. Time noted as "vacation" really isn't. This "date" was nothing like that. A night on the town at the expense of tens of thousands of dollars to taxpayers ... that's just insane. I don't care what condition the economy is in, this is wrong at any time. Couldn't they go to Georgetown, Alexandria, or the Kennedy Center? Camp David?

Home Buyer Tax Credit Critique
Tweet Share on Facebook June 1, 2009 Comment (8)I think the money will come in handy ["The $8,000 First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit Program Expands: 5 Things to Know," usnews.com]. I am buying a home right now, and we have $20,000 saved. We were trying to figure out how much we should put down and how we were going to pay for the closing costs. Once we found out we could [use the $8,000], we were excited because now we could put a little bit more down and still have a few bucks left for other things that we would like to do in the house. My husband and I are really lucky because we were living with his parents and were able to save. Also we are lucky because we have government jobs and don't have to worry about losing them. I think the prices are so good now. We bought a 2,400-square-foot colonial for $330,000. A few years ago it was selling for $530,000, and it's only five years old. Well, I say good luck to anyone who is buying a new home.
