Geneva Convention:

the relationship between the "High Contracting Parties", US, and a non-signatory, Al-Qaeda, the party (US) will remain bound until the non-signatory (Al-Qaeda) no longer acts under the strictures of the convention."

Al-Qaeda breaks the Geneva Convention therefore we don’t have to play by its rules.

This was put in to protect countries. If it wasn't in there one party would have a competitive advantage and likely win a war from it.

Hi,

I wouldn’t obey to any command chain when involves torture or children being tortured. There is a higher chain for me, the moral and ethic chain.

Kind Regards

Those are NOT acts condoned by the nation, those are cowardly, criminal acts committed by individual and are NOT representative in ANY way of US policy. And I expect you will see them prosecuted if they took place.

The problem is defining the line. I seriously doubt anyone would say we should not even interrogate POWs, yet this is pretty much what the Geneva Conventions say (name, rank, serial number only). So if you are a purist, the Geneva Convention was broken by ANY kind of interrogation.

Now, what is "torture"? Very gray area. If I riducule someone to try to get more information, is that torture? What if I ridicule him simply because he is a POW, not for information? Totally different scenarios.

Sleep depravation. When does it cross the line between integration technique and torture? 1 day? 10 days? 100 days?

Everyone fine with allowing police to interrogate suspects but with Al Qaeda caputurees only allowed to ask name, rank, serial number?

Is waterboarding torture? In my mind it depends upon why, how much, how long, what the risk are, the situation, etc. Make it personal. Your loved one has been kidnapped, buried alive and has 1 hour of air left. The person responsible is in custody and you are their. You ask name, rank, serial number and leave? If you can HONESTLY say yes, more power to you.

There is no high ground in interogation the involve sodomizing children in front of their mothers caught on US government video equipment. (Seymour Hersh report this past weekend) The rape, sodomization and murder of children are not acts of a warrior nation..they are acts of a cowardly, criminal nation. The crimes against innocents (children) are certainly torture crimes against humanity and if this country had courage to investigate, prosecute, and if appropriate, execute army generals and CIA directors who tolorated war crime and pass down 15 year prison sentences for those who followed unlawful orders it might find the high ground once again.
