Obama at Notre Dame Uproar

I was amused by the debate over President Obama’s intentions as he addressed school age children recently. This debate prompts one to ask: Since when is it unacceptable for a successful nation’s own president to attempt to encourage and inspire students to reach their full academic potential? I suppose it is unacceptable when conservative parents believe that our president is attempting to indoctrinate their children through partisan rhetoric.

If these individuals are so concerned with the specifics of their children’s daily education, they are either going to have to sit in class with their children each day and cover their children’s ears when a controversial statement is made, or simply home school them. Otherwise, how can a parent be sure that their child’s social studies lesson is not a teacher’s attempt to inspire anti-capitalist sentiment?

We have officially reached the age in which even education is politicized beyond control, reducing the autonomy of capable teachers, and the ability of our President to motivate our country’s children to work hard and achieve greatness.

Only when the Catholic bishops and their followers prosecute the pedopriests who pactice sexual abuse on innocent children do they have the right to pass judgement on anyone. They should begin righting that wrong by removing Cardinal Law from practicing in Rome, and returning hin to the US where he should be prosecuted.

And your a person who has no idea of what your talking about. Alot of students are virgins who protest but i don't know for sure because i don't know their hearts but most probably are virgins. All i know is that it's wrong for Obama to speak at Notre Dame.

By the way i'm a virgin AND a republican!

Give me a break. All the students who are against Obama speaking because he is pro choice are a bunch of hipocrits! The catholic church says you shouldn’t have sex until you are married but how many of these students who are complaining are virgins? I’ll bet not too many if any at all. How come nobody is opposing these students going to Notre Dame when they are clearly going against the Catholic Church when they have sex outside of marriage. And I’m sure the Catholic Church does not condone the partying and hazing that goes on. You guys are a bunch of hipocrites and it is not about the church but about personal dislike. You must be a bunch of bitter Republicans!

I found lots of interesting information on www.usnews.com. The post was professionally written and I feel like the author has extensive knowledge in the subject. www.usnews.com keep it that way.

How does being pro-chioce make you a murderer? Are you in the second grade or something? By supporting abortion you are saying that you're fine with abortion and ending a human life. If you thought abortion is wrong then you should oppose it. The thing about a woman's choice, well was it her choice to have sex? Of course. People must think of cause and effect when they do something not just short term.

I was raised a Irish Catholic, I served as a altar boy, attended mass and Sunday school, so I'd like to ask protesters and other pro-lifers who are so enraged about Notre Dame's invitation to the President, why is it that you ignore the other tenets of Christ and single out Pro- Choice politicians? Why do I not see any call from Catholics and other Christians for more social programs to help the poor and needy? Why do I not see more Catholics and Christians speaking out against the War in Iraq or calling for Humanitarian Intervention in Darfur? Where was the Right when President Bush decimated the Public School system with "No Child Left Behind"? Where was your ardent support for the rights of children then? Where was your defense of human rights when the President suspended Habeus Corpes and authorized wire tapping on Americans? Where is your outrage when scores of American Couples live in this country and are denied basic rights and freedoms afforded to everyone else like hospital visitation, healthcare benefits, and marriage? What about the rights of children to be insured? Huh? Where is your mercy and compassion for the victims of mandatory minimums that disproportionately suffer in prison for crimes that should be fought with treatment and understanding? Where, where is your Christ-like compassion and love for those that stand to benefit from stem cell research? You listen to people like Randall Terry who say things like : "Obama ordered Frankenstein-like federal funding of Embryonic Stem cell research. Human beings will be created to be killed for the sake of “science.”" No Randall, human beings aren't created for this research, these are cells that are in frozen storage and must be thrown out if not used! These cells could eventually find cures for countless diseases including, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal cord injury, burns, heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. Tell me, what happened to curing the sick? Please explain to me why these protesters aren't in front of the White House asking that President Obama do something about the countless children who are gunned down in the streets, victims of illegal hand guns and assault rifles.

This is a time of serious issues and we need serious people to help address them. My problem is not with the view that human life starts at conception, it is with the view that there is no other view. Pro- Choice means freedom; freedom from being told what to do with your body. How exactly does being Pro- Choice make you a murderer? Is President Obama out there in some back alley, luring unsuspecting mothers into committing acts of homicide? No! He advocates the decrease of abortions in the United States!

The absence of these protesters from the issues above illustrate the fair view that when it comes to the true tenets of Christ, "Blessed are the meak," and "Blessed are the Peacemakers," and "Love one another, as I have loved you,", they suddenly become deaf, dumb, and mute.

Why is everyone addressing these letters to Obama? It's not like he will be reading these anyway.

I would be proud to be a Catholic if our Clergy's response was more like the following.

Dear President Obama,

I am delighted that you have accepted the invitation to give this year's commencement address at one of our country's most prestigious Catholic Universities. I pray that this visit will provide you an opportunity to truly listen to our Church and that you will hear and understand our deep concern for all life, especially the lives of those not yet born. I will be delighted if you choose to use this time and place to present your best ideas for reducing abortion. I hope we can work together to make it happen. I am looking forward to your words of encouragement and vision.
