As to "we live in America where where all are supposed to have freedom of speech". WE do have freedom of speech, however, because we exercise that freedom we should not be penalized. If a person makes a statement or a number of statements they should not be compelled to make available to one or one hundred people the means to refute those statements. In this great country of ours there are several means of communication some are offered to the public in order that they might voice their opinions. what would it be like if each of us were directed to provide the means by which the other would be able to refute the others position. The numerous means of communication available in our society almost guarantees a platform from which to speak. To me the fairness doctrine,to me, is anything but fair and has the end result diminishing free speech.
