Debating the Nation's Top Nursing Homes

I am a resident living in the Covington Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. I cannot believe the horror stories I've read. I am very happy in my nursing home, the staff is great, the meals are excellent and so on. I am a retired clinical psychologist and working on my 19th book. The last 2 books were about nursing homes. They have not been published yet. Frankly, I have not seen any resident write about nursing homes: only written about. I have completed extensive research about nursing homes and other senior care options. All I see on the internet is negative anecdotal stories from Doctor's, Nurses,Newpaper Writers and so on without any research to back up their horror stories or about the mean old for profit folks. This only manages to cofuse, scare and intimidate those considering and needing a nursing home. Back up your story telling for crying out loud or come to my nursing home and see the positive side.

I am an Occupational Therapist who has worked in a number of settings. I always gravitated to the geriatric population although come home almost every night disappointed. My husband often ask me why do you do it, are you happy. My answer is no I am not happy with the system but could not get greater pleasure out of helping those in need. My biggest frustration-is the fact people do not care. Do not not become employed in the health care field if you can"t handle the pressure. At the same time I get it, the CNA's are not paid near what they should be nor the nursing staff to adequately care for the patient. Have we became so shallow-as Americans that it's all about me/profit. How much $ can I make off the suffering patient, and medicare pays for this. Don't know about you but I am only 40 and I have a feeling Medicare will not be around a when we need it. Can we make a difference YES! If everyone spoke up it should. I am in the process of contacting influential people to help my cause, our ancestors have worked sooo hard to allow us to be free and very decent humans we should show respect and care and treat with dignity. Let's find people who care!

Any leads e-mail Carmenhulihan @mac.com Thanks to all that care!
