Flight Crew Dream Team
Tweet Share on Facebook February 4, 2009 Comment (2)As a former flight attendant (for another airline), I have to say that this was the perfect ditching ["How Sullenberger Really Saved US Airways Flight 1549," usnews.com]. Obviously the captain and the first officer did a magnificent job, but please let's not forget the flight attendants. The training for ditching, if my memory is correct, gives the flight attendants 90 seconds to clear the cabin. It took 90 seconds on the Hudson—perfect! The more I read about this ditching, the more I realize how amazing the five crew members were! All the power to them!

Sullenberger is not a hero. He did, however, make a brilliant split-second decision, and followed it up with incredible professionalism and skill. His first officer and flight crew appear to have been just as skilled and professional. Simply superb.

He preached a fantastic sermon one time entitled, "What is your sin going to cost me." He should listen to that sermon every day for the rest of his life, so he hopefully will get a clue how his sin is costing our church. Forgiveness is a "no brainer" for followers of Jesus. If you are a believer then you know that forgiveness is not an option; it's mandatory. That being said, I would really like to forget it all and move on. Unfortunately, "the money" is more important to Ted than doing the right thing. His personality feeds on attention, and sensationalism. The real star in this pony show is Gail Haggard. I really wish media would spotlight her persona.

It's sad that Christian leaders, especially those that fall publicly, often end up as icons of Christianity. In reality, people should judge Christianity not by Christians but by Christ and his teachings. Ted Haggard is just a man who is living with the consequences of his sins. Still, Jesus died for him, and if he's willing to confess and repent, his relationship with God can and will be restored, even though the damage he has inflicted on Earth will live on. In the end, his actions as pastor at New Life Church are meaningless to what Christianity is and what Jesus's work on the cross accomplished.

Tweet Share on Facebook February 2, 2009 Comment (3)I love Ted Nugent, but I don't think he would make a good president of the NRA ["Ted Nugent Ready to Battle Antigunners for the NRA," usnews.com]. He works better as the bad cop the antigunners will have to deal with. While the views that Ted Nugent expresses with such vigor speak to the hearts of the strident Second Amendment rights supporters, the way he does it frightens those who are on the fence on the issue. Having Ted Nugent as president of the NRA would push possible allies away.

I would like to see an earnest NRA president who is a military combat veteran or another law abiding citizen; understands it is better to have a legally armed (and trained) citizenship; and has acquired leadership abilities somewhere along the line. It is most important that the president understands this is about our constitutional right to bear arms and to protect ourselves and our freedoms. It is also about making sensible firearms policies to lessen the amount of lethal arms in the hands of criminals and the mentally unbalanced and to cease the flow of weapons from the U.S.A. to below our border. The NRA president does not have to be a celebrity but should be in the forefront of the issues that frighten many antigun rights people.
