Overwhelming Cost of Octuplets

Children are not a right; they are a precious privilege and should be treated as such ["Nadya Suleman's Challenge: Paying for 14 Kids," usnews.com]. I don't mind that she is a single mother, it happens. I mind that she is making poor choices that hurt everyone around her, even strangers. Somebody needs to step up and let everyone know that if they want the privilege of having children they need to work for it. People should be able to see a loving, hardworking mother who was blessed with a large family, but we look and see a woman making the choice to stay unemployed and mother 14 children.

All she wanted was one more child and when all of the embryos ended up taking she didn't want to abort any of the children. I don't blame her. I am strongly opposed to abortion and commend her on that decision. The fact that all the embryos took is a miracle. The fact that she gave birth to eight children at once and that they are all alive is a miracle. Doesn't anyone see that? Maybe instead of everyone attacking her and criticizing her for her decision, they should be a little more Christian and lend a helping hand. Seriously, what would Jesus do?

Under no circumstances should Nadya receive any aid. She alone chose this path, and U.S. citizens should not foot the bill. I'm a little tired of the entitled attitude of many citizens. In fact, single parents who choose to become impregnated and have children without thought of the cost to raise them should be required to work or not be eligible for any government funds.

As a social worker in the field of child welfare, specifically foster care, I think it is inexcusable that Ms. Suleman had this additional IVF treatment resulting in the birth of eight children, in addition to the previous treatments resulting in her other six children. If she wanted a large family, she could adopt. Oh, but I forgot, no state would allow a parent to adopt a child if they could not provide proof of financial, emotional, familial, and household stability. I fear these children will likely enter the foster care system sooner rather than later and will become the financial burden of the state. They are already the financial burden of the state, as their hospital costs will be paid for by Medicaid.

I understand she wants to have a large family. However, she should wait until she has a decent job to pay for all these children. It's as if she feels she is somehow entitled to have as many children as she wants and depend on the U.S. to support them! Many people have a hard enough time supporting their own families in this day and age, let alone others. I know she says she won't accept welfare, but come on, there is no way she can support 14 children on her own!

Excuse me but the doctor who did the procedure to implant the embryos should have his license taken away.

What ethical doctor would do this procedure on this woman???

The children will be removed in due time and be put into foster homes. I just hope that this mother releases these children for adoption rather then drag this out for years and years.

Hey people why are you so worried about the Octuplets cost and not care about the bail outs for Wall Street banks insurance companies and dont forget the car industry. We could feed the whole world with the money we have thrown away so that they can keep on living it up.Parties leerjets hefty bonuses and some even remodel their offices for millions. Think about it AND DIRECT YOUR ANGER WERE IT NIGHT HELP.

I think we should help the children. I heard on the radio from a lady that said, Nadya should not get the money, but we need to think of the children. I believe the children should not be punished for her mom's stupid choice. Heck my parents made dumb choices, and I do as well. I think it's rediculus that a person on here said we need to have a christian attitude about this. Well I am a christian but God asks us to make wise choices, and when you already have six kids, and you're unemployed, and single there is no way you could take care of them. Man personally I think even 2 kids is enough for me, never mind 14. I have a decent job, a nice home, wonderful church family, people who will back my wife and I up in tough situations. I really doubt they would help if we had 6 kids and struggling, then move onto 14 kids. I would never want to even have one kid if I was unemployed, because even with my decent job I know money could be tight. I have tonnes of respect for Jon and Kate because they never ever asked for help. They deserve the help in my opinion because they stepped up to the plate, and never expected anything. They were truly blessed, they never expected a show or anything, and they work hard. I'd have more respect for Nadya if she adopted the kids or worked her butt off. I know a guy up here where I live who works 3 jobs to put his son through med school, now that's a real responsible parent, and he is single. So don't give me the attitude that we need to be more christian like to this lady. I don't agree with the death threats etc....and all the garbage but why when you have 6 kids already, and you're unemployed would you go for even one more kid? When the U.S. economy is in such bad shape, we have to pay for her stupid choice? How about the single mom's barely making it living in slumsland, not able to pay the bills, and Nadya gets a 2 million from Couric? There are so many more hardworking parents out there that need the money more. Anyways that's my view.
