Abortion Issue Debate

Why can't the right to lifers give up and accept the status quo ["New Abortion Wars," January 14]?

One problem they have never been able to come to grips with is what to do when women are able to abort by themselves, a safe and simple procedure with the increased availability of the French drug RU-486 or mifepristone. No matter what laws are passed, women will continue to seek abortions, just as they have for thousands of years. To confer personhood on a cell is an absurd idea.

I believe life begins at conception. What astounds me is that those who favor abortion went through an identical development stage as the being they are condemning to death. Would these very same people agree that a similar choice should have been made about their own existence? What ever happened to taking responsibility for one's actions? What about the Constitution of the United States? Are not all people conceived deserving of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

I found lots of interesting information on www.usnews.com. The post was professionally written and I feel like the author has extensive knowledge in the subject. www.usnews.com keep it that way.
